VERY NICE! and a early one to boot. Had one just like it, got ripped off out of my truck. (~1986) ,,, every time one pops up I feel the need to replace it. But in the mean time this 657- 3” 41mag works.😁 WOW that's a nice one! Something like that could keep my hand off a single actions grip for at least a short period of time.

I have a 66 no dash with 2.5” barrel. I put on some Altamont combat wood grips, it’s too nice to carry. I had my wife shoot it after a Speed Six, GP100, S&W Bodyguard .38spl; after the first shot she said ‘wow, that is a smooth trigger’. I did have to send it to S&W to fix late timing, well worth the $178 it cost. I’ll see if I can attach a pic Edit to add pic and info; left to right—S&W 21-4, S&W 66 no dash, S&W 27-2

They're fantastic little guns. I've carried this one every day since 1995. Shockingly accurate and had I not bought it new, I would've sworn someone did an action job on it. Smooth with a very light let off SA. As for double action, the only gun I have that's better is my Python. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

I'm hoping Santa will leave one of those in my stocking.

I've a Sis that has a 66 that looks like that first pic, at the start of thread. Don't think it's going anywhere. Then other Sis just picked up a J-frame of some sort. So the weird brother had to recently counter with an LCR. The 66 though, is very nice.

Sawed off magnums, tough as you can get.

My favorite EDC is the S&W mod 66-8 in an old vintage Safariland #28 lined holster. I am thinking about changing the grips even though they're pretty comfortable as is... wood just seems to be a better look.

Nicely done bosensmate, one gun I let go years ago was a 2.5” 19, kick myself all the time for that. Something about the older K frame 2.5’s that makes them look, feel and shoot great. I’m still looking for a replacement, and a 66 would be nicer than the 19.

Trapr.... S&W did various servicing on various M-19 and M-66 revolvers. Carried an M-19 considerably more than the M-66 and the only difference noticed: * M-66 has no finish to wear off. * M-66 infinitely more rust resistant to hot humidity.
Somewhere in production, S&W may have switched the old gas ring for the improved gas ring, which is swaged into a counterbore in the front of the cylinder. Hot loads can spring the unswayed gas ring forward, which then applies the brakes to cylinder rotation. As for hammer & trigger, both are case carburized carbon steel, with flashing chroming assembled in the stainless steel M-66. Great DA & SA trigger pulls are proper to both. David Bradshaw
