Took my 1948 ZK-22 Masterpiece along when I look my 1st trip up to the mountain in a long time today. It is the only revolver I shot much over the long cold winter. I enjoyed it. I Did not get of to a great start. But before long things were jumping around the clear cut pretty regularly. I was shooting some Fiocci. 40 grain ammo, and decided to put a target at 20 paces I was very happy with the group and right to point of aim,
I ran out of that load and started shooting my 32 H&R, It was spraying ammo all over the paper, and just to verify that it was the revolver not the shooter, I got the 22 out again.
I had a Bulk Box of Winchester 40 grain loads and squirted an even better group with the Winchester. But the funny thing was , The Winchester grouped 2 inches low and 4 inches left of the Fiocci. I would not have expected that big of a difference...tj

Hard to beat a good 22... The older I get the more I like them. Centerfire noise, muzzle blast, and recoil help hide all the stuff we need to stop doing. The only caution is that the 22 shoots so good and easy that we tend to try to make it shoot perfect instead of simply applying the fundamentals.

I shoot .22’s all the time. They are such good training tools and keep you sharp with sight picture, trigger squeeze, and the other fundamentals.

Best way to train a new shooter to handle and shoot a firearm. It also helps to reinforce good shooting habits.

22 ammo can frustrate, and does.

Bad ammo? Yup... Bulk packed stuff can be the worst. Of course properly packaged, poorly handled 22 can be bad too. Back when I was issued 22 a case (5000 rounds) at a time I'd test it. If it shot good, the case became match ammo. If it did not the entire case was practice ammo.

Axehandle, I think both loads were pretty good quality wise. The bulk Winchester, shot a nice tight group, but my surprise was that it was so far away from the group from the Fiocci printed. Both loads being 40 grain. ...tj

The only caution is that the 22 shoots so good and easy that we tend to try to make it shoot perfect instead of simply applying the fundamentals. My goodness, I went down this rabbit hole last year. It started with wanting some cheap target practice rather than working on reloads and ended with a Dan Wesson 22 with a 4x Leupold from a rest.

I take my S&W 617 4" to the range all the time, it's easily one of my favorite guns.

I shoot .22’s multiple days of the week, great practice and so relaxing.

I had a nice High Standard The Victor. When John Linebaugh and I couldn’t get a big gun to shoot we’d shoot The Victor. If it didn’t shoot we’d go get pie and coffee. We weren’t going to shoot well that day. The Victor always shot well
