I located this tri-folded brochure from Ojala in some of my dad's things. He never bought an Ojala rig, but wanted one. I thought it might be of interest to folks. I am guessing it is from the '60s or '70s. Perhaps someone can tell from the address? My apologies for the creases showing, but it was folded up in a drawer for a long time. Hope these are of use to someone. God Bless, Marc

Pretty much all I know is that Matt Dillon shot him down in the street in the early "Gunsmoke" episodes.

I have that same brochure somewhere and also his little booklet on "Secrets of the Fast Draw." My 7-1/2", black basket weave Ojala Hollywood Fast Draw holster dates back to 1958. My 1st date with Diamond Dot in November was to go to Boyle's Gun Shop and pick it up. Then to the Flagpole for burgers. Still have the holster and her.

There are multiple versions of The Secrets of Fast Draw. The covers are different and different adds but the same internals. The rare one was a Seattle Worlds Fair version.

Following the first IHMSA International Championship, 1977, Ray Chapman invite me to shoot with him on his combat range. When I pulled out a 6-1/2” Model 29, Ray asked what I had for ammunition. “Silhouette loads, Hornady 240 JHP over H110." He didn’t want me busting’ up his Buck Toddy falling plates, so he asked whether I happened to have “something smaller?” I pulled a Colt 1911 Series 70 and all was well. During a break reaches into his old Toyota Landcruiser with 327 Chevy, grabs a traditional Arvo Ojala suede-side-out rig made for his own M-29 6-1/2”. My guns never wore their skin inside-out, but Ray Chapman’s Ojala was a beautiful rig. David Bradshaw

I knew Ray, was allowed to handle and photograph his gun leather. The rough out rig was actually by Andy Anderson.

David, I handled the rig. Once Ray found Anderson he used his leather. Andy told us that Thell Reed was his best customer as when a rig was dirty and looked used he ordered a new one. Ray was his worst repeat customer as he replaced a rig only when it was completely worn out. Of course that is what made Ray a World Champion.
