I used to regard fixed sight revolvers as second rate. Then I bought a S&W 10 with a 4" heavy barrel round but. Shoots like a dream. I was in a shop the other day and they had a S & W 681 in good shape. What are they worth, no box or tools.

700-1,000 depends on condition!

I use to have a model 681, sold it……one of the worst mistakes in gun sales/trading ever.

The Distinguished Service Magnum is not all that common. They are pushing the $1000 range. I carried this Model 581 as a duty revolver for many years. Best wishes in obtaining an outstanding revolver!

I looked for one for years with a $600 budget. Never found one at that price and I still don’t have one. I could have had a good shooter 581 but I passed, for a fixed sight revolver the 581/681 is right at the max size, a 3” K frame is a little more desirable
