Is it possible to put a Model 17 cylinder in a Model 53 revolver?

Nominal length of a Model 17 K22 cylinder is 1.62" while the Model 53 Jet cylinder is 1.67".
This info from Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 4th edition.

...and unbelievably expensive when you do find one...last two I saw sell were in the $800 area.

Passed on the 53 since I bought a 16-4. I was looking at a 53 but no inserts or extra cylinder. Inserts are going for over $100 each on some sights (!)

I HAVE SEVERAL (AROUND 8) XTRA 22lr MODEL 53 CYLINDERS, IIRC 5 ARE FITTED TO MODEL 53 REVOLVERS, A 6th IS A NICKEL'ed ONE CONVERTED TO 22 K-HORNET AND FITTED TO A NICKELED 6" TRI-CYLINDERED MODEL 53 (22JET/22lr/22K-HORNET), THE 7th IS A SPARE AND THE 8th IS A SLIGHTLY SLOPPY K-HORNET CONVERSION (BY ME). I HAVE 2 MODEL 53's WITHOUT A 22lr CYLINDER, 1 A 8 3/8ths" AND 1 AN ENGRAVED, GENUINE MOP STOCKED, 4". THE SPARE 22lr I WAS GOING TO USE FOR A K-FRAME 218 BEE CONVERSION BUT HAVE NOT "PULLED THE TRIGGER" ON THAT YET, AND I BELIEVE THE SLIGHTLY SLOPPY 22 K-HORNET WOULD BE PERFECT FOR A 327 OR 32 MAG CONVERSION. I ALSO HAVE A 22 SUPER JET CYLINDER FOR THE MODEL 53.
I WOULD BE WILLING TO PART WITH THE SLIGHTLY SLOPPY K-HORNET CYLINDER FOR $425.00 SHIPPED AND INSURED via PRIORITY MAIL.

JRH turned my 53 into a .327...a burned out Jet barrel barrel was rebored and .22 cylinder rechambered...came out great...
Still have the .22 Jet cylinder and barrel so it can be put back to Jet if some future owner wants to.

IMHO, THE "PArTIAL UNDERLUG" STYLE OF A JET BARREL IS PRETTIER AND MORE PRACTICAL THAN THE NO UNDERLUG OF THE K-22 AND K-32 REVOLVERS AND THE FULL UNDERLUG OF THE 16-4 32 MAG - 45MAN
