MY AGED MTM PLASTIC PISTOL SHOOTING REST, WITH TIME, HAS GOTTEN WOBBLY. WHEN IT WAS NEW IT WAS PRETTY SOLID BUT AFTER 20 OR SO YEARS OF LOTS OF USE IT HAS LOOSENED UP AND I CAN SEE IT IN MY GROUPS (I HOPE IT IS THE REST AND NOT ME!). I ORDERED A NEW (AND FAIRLY NEW TO ME) RANSOM MULTI CAL STEADY PISTOL REST AND GOT WORD YESTERDAY THAT IT IS ON THE WAY. REALLY HOPING THAT THIS WILL IMPROVE MY PISTOL SHOOTING OFF A REST. WHEN I GET IT I WILL POST SOME PICTURES AND HOPEFULLY BE ABLE TO PROVIDE A POSITIVE REVIEW.

Bench has about 10 years on it and the pistol rest about twice that. I started with a steel rest, however it was so heavy we changed it to an aluminum base. postimg.cc/YhBcp3FR

My rest is set up with a large enough platform so my hands and forearms rest on sandbags.

JT: I WILL TRY A SANDBAG AT OR NEAR THE REAR END OF THE REST. WITH THE MTM REST MY FOREARMS WERE ALWAYS RESTING ON THE CONCRETE BENCH OR WHATEVER FLAT PLATFORM I WAS SHOOTING OFF OF.

WENT TO MY RANGE ON THE RIO GRANDE YESTERDAY MORNING, VERY WINDY CONDITIONS, SO DID NOT EVEN TRY TO SHOOT FOR GROUPS ON MY FLOPPY, SHOT OUT, PAST ITS USEFUL LIFE, PORTABLE CARDBOARD BOX, BUT THE REST WAS ROCK SOLID AND A JOY TO SHOOT OFF OF. MY NEXT PROJECT IS TO MAKE A REPLACEMENT FOR OL' WOBBLY.

I always wear elbow pads, get them from the volleyball players at the high school. Rey, that looks like a dandy rest, might have to get one.

I got one of the steady rests several months ago and really like it. For my elbows I have a flat Sorbothane (sp?) pad that cushions the recoils blow to the right elbow. I added some extra leather to the forward support of the SR and taped it in place to provide a bit softer surface upon which to rest the barrel. The SR form Ransom is way better than our old set-up which was a chunk of 4x4 with sand bags on top.

I sent Ransom a message asking a question about these rests and Julie Ransom wrote me back.
Gotta love a family business…
