Question for the S&W guys. is the grip frame on a 1917 the same profile as later N frames such as the 28-2?
somebody contacted me about making him a set of stags for his 1917 but I thought I remembered reading early S&W frames had a different shape.

Question for the S&W guys. is the grip frame on a 1917 the same profile as later N frames such as the 28-2? somebody contacted me about making him a set of stags for his 1917 but I thought I remembered reading early S&W frames had a different shape. I wouldn’t trust a perfect fit to luck. John Taffin can throw in on this better than me. Years ago I had Herrett make Bill Jordan walnut scales to my hand for a Model 19. When I told Steve Herrett that I had to complete fit-up, he said, “I inlet the grips more precisely than Smith & Wesson finishes the frame.” I then passed that conversation along to Roy Jinks at S&W. Jinks agreed, as each revolver comes out of polishing a little different. The 1917 stretches back two world war’s worth. David Bradshaw
