Do not take this as official, however there could a difference in legal handgun barrel length and legal hunting handgun barrel length. When IPSC shooting competitions are held I guarantee you there are no 8” handguns used. As well as plenty without optics. Where ever you get your info from I would always revert to “official government documentation” and have a current copy of the info with the guns and a spare in your papers. Anecdotal he said I heard info is of no use and there is little help in arguing with airport officials. Cash in hand can also be an effective method of appeasing officials with “fees and taxation duties”………..sadly.

I have been told by several reputable Safari companies that there would be no problem bringing my 7.5” Freedom Arms .454 or my 5” .500 Linebaugh. I will be mostly using a .375 JDJ Contender but if somehow I can swing a Cape Buffalo I would love to take the .500

To me I’d want it in writing it would suck big time to lose a gun, and worse to wind up in jail, because of advice from an unofficial source. Having traveled overseas with guns, official documents trumps everything else. I’ve even had an official deny leaving a country with my gun saying I didn’t arrive with proper paperwork. Until I produced the arrival paperwork with his signature approving my arrival. It was kind of hard for him to deny improper paperwork when he signed and dated it the prior week.

Definitely don’t want to leave it to chance. Right now I know that my top targets are Eland and Kudu and anything else would be a bonus if my wallet allows. I figure I am safe with the 14” .375 JDJ Contender on the big Eland. I could use it on Kudu but might take my 14” BF in 6.5 BRM for it instead. So many choices!

I would like to take my 475 Linebough with 7.5 barrel, but can't. Could you have a brake added to it to get the length you need for the hunt? Can always have it removed when you return.
