Got this 18-4 combat masterpiece today. I really like the target hammer and trigger. My friend owned it. I've shot it before. Good prices don't come by much anymore so have to jump when the opportunity knocks.

Looks like a great woods carry gun. Very similar to my M48.
Hope it balances the same too.
Congrats and looking forward to the range report...

Great sixgun.
Compared to a model 17, the 18 always reminds me of the model 27 and model 28 relationship.
Incredibly close except for higher polish.

The model 17's and 18's are identical except for the barrel length. The 18 has a 4" barrel, the 17 has 6" and 8 3/8" barrels. The polish level, fit, and finish is identical between the two..

My understanding is, The Model 18s were intended as companion guns for model 19s, sold to police departments for inexpensive practice gun's. But the one in the picture looks to have a lighter barrel than the #19 in my gun safe. ...tj

The models 15,18, and 19 were the "Masterpiece" series. All were great guns. Of mine, I only kept the 18. I do have a 17 in the 6+ inch.

That's a nice-looking gun. I wish I could find one in that condition and at a decent price' Ones in good shape are very rare around here.

Several years ago, I found a M18 at a gun show. The guy apologized for not having the box. I sad no big deal, I'm buying it to shoot. They are nice guns.

Is the front sight profile different between the #17 & #18?

The 18 uses a ramp front sight. The 17 uses a flat faced Patridge front sight.

The 18-4 was the first revolver I bought new. Still in the famil after 41 years. Came with smooth combat trigger and semi-target hammer. After sending it back to the factory to have the barrel correctly installed, it has been an excellent gun. If they would only make a Model 618.
