That is a nice blue. Those cylinder walls are getting thin. I am guessing that the cylinder alloy is ETD150? So is the case a .556 rim, 1.274" length? The same as the JRH? Thanks for sharing.

I would really like to know what type of steel, (and what hardness) that cylinder is made from!

I would really like to know what type of steel, (and what hardness) that cylinder is made from! In the email I have from David only says “special steel”. In the December 2007 issue of Handloader magazine, Brian Pearce said that David made for him a slightly oversize six-shot 45 colt cylinder on a midframe old model Blackhawk that can take “Ruger Only”’(32k psi) loads. The steel used was only described as a specially hardened tool steel. That is the only “heavy” six-shot mid-frame 45 Colt that I’ve heard of David Clements making. I would love to have such a gun made. Some say they are unsafe, but with the proper steel and heat treat, they must be ok. I’ve discussed this with a couple different prominent gunmakers, and they both agreed that such cylinders made from the proper steel, and hardened to 42-43rc work fine around the 32k psi range.

It certainly is beautifully made. Any reports on shooting this one yet?

Nice gun, that's been an intriguing caliber to me for awhile
Has anyone ever done penetration tests between this one and 44mag's, heavy 45colt, etc etc.. I'd sure be curious to see a visual comparison between some of the recognized and trusted 44 loads, 45 loads and the slow, heavy 900/1000fps giant wildcats like these. Just to see what they really differ at besides just making a bigger hole.
If I had a 500, I'd sure as hell do it. Only done 41 & 44 stuff myself. Only wish I had a short handy 500 to try.
