A s&w 617 22lr? Looking at the 4” to complement my 625 45 acp. The new manufactured ones.

In my mind it would make the perfect understudy. My 6-inch 617 is wonderfully accurate, wouldn't trade it for the world.

We have a couple of the 4". They have only been used for plinking. They have been a lot fun.

I like the 4" but the 6" is a little muzzle heavy for me...

I like the 4" but the 6" is a little muzzle heavy for me... Saw a slab-sided 686 a couple days ago and got to thinking about what I liked about it and what I might have done a bit differently. First two words that popped in my head when I read "the 6" is a little muzzle heavy" were Jack Huntington and Bridgeport. Alright, that's three words...but folks have been making Rugers "right" for decades. There's no reason the sins of the Smiths can't be corrected as well!

I've had those same thoughts. The last couple years I passed on a S&W 610 and 648. They had so many issues I figured it would cost more to fix than to buy.
I'd still buy both if I find good quality examples...

I recently added a 617 to my meager bunch of S&W handguns. I managed a fair deal & was pleasantly surprised at what I got. Mine arrived with a sweet action job.

My 4 inch 10 shot 617 has been a pleasure to own. I'd learned my S&W rimfire revolver changing springs lesson earlier so mine runs stock springs with an Apex hammer. Stay away from the Speed Beez loaders. You just thought your semi auto 22s went through ammo quick...

I would love to own an 8" 617 for squirrels and such.

I recently bought a 6 inch 10 shot 617 for small game. This thing is a tack driver.
