I’ve got a 4.25” Model 69 I’m picking up tomorrow and was wondering if anyone’s got some holster recommendations. Plan on wearing it when I’m bumming around the Green Mountains and performing dangerous irresponsible chainsaw operations on the homestead.
I’ve been looking at my usual suspects (Simply Rugged and El Paso Saddlery), but very open to suggestions.

I like Doc’s stuff. He did this for a 5” N Frame with an optic which can obviously be left out. It is a cross draw

I second getting a holster from Doc. Once I found his work, and got my first rig from him,, none seem to compare. I actually got a few other holsters, JUST to try them out as a comparison piece. (And a couple of them are well known & considered good rigs.) But I always find myself slipping a gun into a holster by Doc when I need one for whatever.

Something high on the chest with an open bottom and a flap if possible. The sawdust will get everywhere and the completely open bottom and flap will offer some protection, the high chest gets it up and out of the way. A partially closed bottom is a trap for dust, debris.

All good points. If things are really nasty or I need something worn on the chest, I have a very nice chest rig I throw my Glock 20 in. This would be more for strong-side carry for routine woods lounging

You guys recommend cheap stuff. I've already been blamed for causing Tim to buy the gun...

Doc makes some nice leather but take a look at Jeffery Custom Leather Dont discount the need for a good sturdy belt either Tim. That belt plays a BIG role in carrying the weight of the revolver, especially one that on the heavy side. Bianchi makes some nice comfortable hip rigs too.

I had Doc make this for guns I felt warranted additional protection. Modified Longhorn Companion with optic cut. Can be worn with or without the flap, strong side or cross draw, rides well sitting, and the holster slips out easily when needed (typical Longhorn Companion traits). I love it. I would like to have him reproduce it for my Clements Old Army if that is OK with you Ronnie

Of course, go for it. I don't feel like I own the pattern at all, and it would be nice if Doc benefitted from his design time on this one. Once it was in hand I had the afterthought of including a snap on hammer thong for when the flap was removed.
The flap is held on by a snap in front and back of the holster, which allows it to pivot at the snaps. Good for accommodating different grip frames, but it does allow the flap to be pushed fore and aft during use. If square shaped snaps existed that would fix that, but I'm sure there's other work arounds.

My every day belt is a ‘Gunner’ belt from Hank’s Belts. They’re excellent - holds up great for everything from a 1911 to a 6” N-frame or Blackhawk.
