My sister brought her LCR in .38 Spl to Montana on her last visit... she shot it, and well didn't like her own revolver.... hmmm I figured I should try it. I will say it shoots, but it's not a range gun. Is it a nice light carry for EDC, yes it is.

They're excellent shooters and sights are easier to change out than the J frame. Front sight acquisition is vital for hits in a hurry. Simple pin replacement needed to change sights on a LCR. The Smith not so much. The LCR has a much better trigger.
On the Downside, the LCR will melt!

Note to self..when sitting around camp fire, move LCR to back pocket. Yup.

The LCRX, 3", 38 Special is still very light, but takes up a bit more space. Not nearly as easily concealable, but very much more comfortable to shoot than the really light 2" guns. I'm mixed on that one - not terribly compact for concealment, not an all-afternoon-plinker, but still a neat trail gun or house gun for someone who appreciates the light weight. It shoots to point of aim and is accurate, so not complaining, just not quite sure about it either.
The triggers really are very good for a small-framed revolver.

The 38/357 a bore I skipped right over. Friends have 357's that I HATE for muzzle blast, noise afield. I've the gear needed to load for as FIL and now other family have 38/357's. You guys keep this stuff up and I'll end up with an LCRX 357. Sigh..LOL. My 44spec Bulldog is quite upset over this development.

This was my exact same mindset for many years. I'd give up on the 357 and eventually buy a gun I liked that happened to be a 357. Give up again, rinse, lather, repeat. The 44 Special seemed so much more like it was on my side - not working to offend both the target and the shooter with the obnoxious blast.
MUCH later, it dawned on me that 1) I don't BUY ammo, and 2) I don't HAVE to load max loads. DUH! When I started messing with a 357 carbine, what 12, 13 years ago now, I really started liking the 357. After a while, it just made sense to also shoot the 357 in a revolver too. All but a very few, very seldom-shot 357 loads for the carbine are pretty tame. Most of those are REALLY tame, like 38 Special target wadcutter-tame. What I carry in the revolver are good general-purpose field-loads in the 158 to 180 grain, 900 to 1kfps range. "Deer loads," which I have very few opportunities to use, are REAL 357 loads and only get used in the carbine, but are still SAFE, if not unpleasant in the little revolvers I prefer.
I've become quite a fan of the 357 in recent years and have come to appreciate its utility and effectiveness. I use it a lot more than the 44 Special now, but I won't give up the 44 Special. I still shoot that for pleasure and do get quite a lot of pleasure from doing so. If I WANT to take it deer-hunting, I can, but it's still my favorite, even though the overall utility and economy of a 357, at somewhat lower pressures and speeds, is undeniable.
I've cleaned up a lot of varmints/vermin with the 357, haven't really hunted game much with it, but still have "eaten a lot of crow" regarding the 357 and discovered it don't taste all that bad.

Another LCR question to those ahead of me on this path. Mine the very snubby, 1 7/8" ? +P 38. The fixed sights are designed, regulated, to what load, bullet/velo ? My 3grs Bullseye and 148 PC'd WC's run high. The Blazer 125gr HP factory loading a bit high too. I'll take guesses, but if someone just plain KNOWS, please share. Like to not do too much trial and error with this lil gun.

I've had plenty of trouble with 9mm in revolvers. At the time it sounded like a great idea, get to shoot revolvers with the cheapest centerfire pistol ammo in the store, what's not to like? Crimp jump is more serious of an issue than I imagined. No matter the grip technique I had issues. The solution was 1. find ammo with a longer bullet shank in the case (147gr JHP), 2. give the rounds a little extra taper crimp. With all that work, it defeated the purpose of buying off-the-shelf ammo and I just stick to my 38/357's.

The LCR an me spent some time on the patio range yesterday. NathanHale recently came thru and gifted me some CCI shotshells for the 38/357 bore. I shot at a little yellow sticker, say 1" x 2". With the sticker sitting atop the front site, at 10', say the pattern was about a foot around and the yellow sticker was at the lower 1/3 mark. As in 2/3 of pattern was above the POA. Not bad, prefer shot loads to slightly above sights. All 3 loads tried, roughly 3" above dot at 15ft.. From 148gr WC on 3grs of Bullseye, Speer Blazer 125gr HP +P, to factory 158gr SWC. Wish it was closer to POA. I have no desire for a hot 110gr loading.
