With the new ones all you have to do is push down on the loading gate and they all pop out. So you don't have to cycle them through the action.

That can be done on some of the older ones too,…..I shot my 1980-90’s, 1895 today. Tried some new ammunition thru it, 1.5” at the most at 100. It used to be a 22” version, and got converted to 18” before you could get an 18.5” from the factory. They are great guns, shot my converted 50AK as well but only briefly as the optic decided to self adjust after 7-8 rounds. Trapr

I forgot that the new ones had that feature, But when working up a handload, and making sure they will cycle, in my basement, muzzle of course pointing at the concrete wall , I like the safety on, I mean the hammer is cocked and I am cycling rounds through the chamber, so the safety makes sense to me. it works great with my Rossi 92 also. I think on balance I would prefer them not being there, but they are of some comfort when testing for cartridge OAL and such...tj

I do not use a dummy round. I have done so but not often. And when I hunt even with factory ammo , I run the rounds through the chamber. ...tj

Can't say it isn't a handsome rifle.

I really like those little Trapper rifles ! Extremely easy handling little carbine. I put a Williams red dot on mine. I think that I am really going to like it for close range. I certainly love the handling aspects of these little lever guns.
I have a couple of older Marlin's that I had cut to 20", a new 19" SBL, and the Trapper. For hiking about the Trapper is the favorite.
