Here's an off the wall question:
Does micarta tend to get a little slick in sweaty hands? I have never handled micarta, so I have no first hand knowledge.
Micarta looks like it would be slick in wet hand, but I have found that looks can be deceiving. For example, i have a set of grips on a j-frame that look like they would get slick, but instead they stay a little tacky and give an excellent grip surface.
thank you, c.r.

I've got micarta on several custom knive's, I use them a lot for skinning and they aren't slippery at all. No gun grips though.

I can explain the why for this one. Micarta is not a molded material, it is several layers of something (paper, linen, etc.) immersed into an epoxy and allowed to dry under several tons of pressure in a press, thereby being cut to shape and filed/ground/etc, to final fit and shape leaving what are in fact actually tiny microscopic non hand abrading ridges that work great for making it stay put in the hand, even when wet

Not slick at all, and you can rough it up to your liking. Micarta will get a dull or flat finish but looks good after a rubbing with scotch bright or steel wool.

Indeed, and if you can somebody that will make the Micarta for you, you can get some pretty cool looking stuff in cross section
