Supica's S&W book lists serial numbers and years. By the book both of my Post War Magnums are 1954/1955 guns. FWIW people who really study this stuff will tell you that you can go to Roy Jinx and get details about when the gun actually shipped and who it shipped to.

AT ONE TIME S&W SOLD GRIP ADAPTERS, SIMILAR TO THE TYLER T-GRIP ADAPTER BUT W/O A FINGER GROOVE. I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT 'em/BOUGHT A LARGE ONE, HAVE NOT CHECKED IT OUT YET AND NEED TO TRY IT ON SOME OLEDER N FRAMES.

I used to reference this book at the library but its seem to have become unavailable. Looks like I'll have to buy one.

By the book both of my Post War Magnums are 1954/1955 guns. By the mid 50's they are no longer referred to as Post-War guns but are then called Pre-Model guns.1955 to 1956ish begins the 4 or 5 screw designations. O my, the black hole of minutia gets deep surrounding S&W Revolvers.
