Beautiful gun!
I love the 3"- or so DAs. I think I'd get along with those grips too.

That is a fine looking revolver. May I ask.. How do you know the hammer and cylinder dont match? I really dont know much about Smith's and would like to learn.

The hammer and trigger are blue. They should be CCH. These S&Ws have their serial numbers in multiple locations. They should match. The serial number on the cylinder on this one does not match the barrel, grip, and frame.

These revolvers maximize use of drop forged parts----heavy foundry manufacturing----and predate Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machining. On a visit in the late 1970’s, I was told a lathe made on the eve of the Civil War was still in use. No parts were “CCH” (Color Case Hardened) back then. However, hammer & trigger were case cardened (case carburized/case hardened), which very thin surface hardening imparts a wonderful color spectrum to the quenched part. Without case hardening, single action wouldn’t last worth diddly, and double action would soon grind down. Necessity utterly subsumes decorative aspect. Reckon you know this, but “CCH” has invaded our lingo to the point of confusion. In my reading of photos, cylinder, frame, and thumpiece appear to have been polished & re-blued. Gorilla Monsoon took a plier to the extractor rod. Revolver may represent transition period when S&W switched from extractor rod & extractor with right hand threads, to LH thread. S&W Target Hammer & Target Trigger are not normal to the .357, and are never blued at factory. These guns love a good cleaning & fresh oil. In proper order these are great shooters, and don’t need Rocks & Dynamite to prove themselves. David Bradshaw

AXE: YOU SHOULD HAVE FUN TINKERING WITH AND SHOOTING THIS ONE. TO ME THE 3.5" MODEL 27, ESPECIALLY WITH MAGNA STOCKS, IS ONE BAD ASS/COOL LOOKING REVOLVER. TIME TO TAKE MY NICKELED S SERIAL #'ed 3.5" OUT FOR SOME FIELD USE.
