Where are the locations for these numbers? I found a pre (?) mdl 27 5 screw with numbers on butt of grip, and in the shroud ejector resess. The number on the frame where the cylinder connects is different. It also has nickel plating on the front sight and cylinder, the rest of the gun is blued. Followed me home today. Not sure what its worth but it locks up tight and the price is not what I expected.

Number on the frame under the crane is a part number. SN is on the bottom of the grip frame, the cylinder, and shroud ejector recess.

Where are the locations for these numbers? From front, working back: 1) Underside of the barrel; 2) Rear edge of the yoke, visible when peering through an empty chamber (use a light); 3) Underside of the star extractor; 4) Rear cylinder face; 5) Grip frame (remove grips, if needed); and 6) Inside right grip panel, oftentimes in pencil and difficult to read.
-Bill(Obviously, #6 doesn’t apply to your gun with Franzite plastic grips.)

Used by fitters (when hand fitting was required because of forging methods) to keep fitted parts together once they cane back from polishing and/or finishing. Kevin

I wasn't thinking, it wasn't $50 but $500.

You have a not-too-often encountered S&W, even if unoriginal and refinished. Speaking of which, yours has a curious combination of refinished parts. I, for one, would like to see more. I like to take pictures in natural light, preferably under overcast or evening skies. -Bill
