I’ve been trading plastic for alloy and this is the result. A Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry in 45 acp. It is about the same weight as the plastic guns but with a lot better trigger. I’ve been doing some testing with heavy bullets and I like it so far.

Those minis can be cool... Traditionally not a mini fan, I had a shade tree gunsmith buddy who wanted some to look at... I looked around for him and found a few deals that were just to good... This CDP Ultra Elite II was one of the deals... It functions as good as it looks.

Axe, That was the other selection the gun store had. I liked the melted edges but the stainless won out. The ultra carry is accurate and has not had any problems.

Kimber only made 600 copies of the Ultra Elite CDP II back in 2002.... www.kimberamerica.com/products/specialrun/specialrun.php Their first use of a ramped barrel in a 45 ACP. My other minis are a little more vanilla with the exception of a Les Baer Custom Colt Officers Model... This was $1500 in custom work 16 years ago... I bought the gun new in the early 80s. It got caught up in a buddy gun trade in the early 90s. Went to Baer in '94.. Got it back a couple of years ago...

The Ultra Carry is my first 1911 with a ramped barrel. It seems like a good ideal for a short gun that has little slide travel and an alloy frame. I had one alloy Commander in the past but did not notice any ramp damage from hollow point bullets.
I had the 750th Colt Officer Model made. It was blue with a matte finish. I liked the little gun. I was going to use it a backup gun to the Government Model I was carrying but was not impressed with the recoil spring plug. I was always worried about it quitting on me and launching down range at a bad time.
Nice Baer.

Ed Brown had the fix for the Colt OM recoil spring plug at least 25 years ago... My OM was an exceptional little shooter as a stock gun... With the Baer work it is tight and slick... Do have a SA V10 which is another interesting venture into the mini 1911 madness... Made jokes about this same gun for virtually years before the mini gun rapture snared me... It showed up used, cheap, and before I learned to use the macro zoom... Wonder Why?

Axe, Whose grips are on the Springfield? I haven’t yet decided what kind of grips for my little Kimber. I’m thinking something in ivory color or stag.
