Have spent the last 3 days in Minnesota and “enjoying” the teens and twenties for hunting weather, the winds at 12-20mph made it quite more “enjoyable”. This morning had no wind or maybe 2-3mph, which made 20* feel quite nice!!! I didn’t even need to light my old Jon-E handwarmers this morning, first afternoon had lots of activity early and a heck of a buck for the area at 50-60 yards, but he was chasing a doe and wouldn’t stop. Then nothing all day Saturday, this morning a lone buck, small 6, maybe 8 if he had brow tines but 115 yards was the closest he got, still hittable but I held off. This evening is my last chance, season ends. Then it’s off to Idaho Monday, for fishing and then Montana by the weekend for a family reunion and maybe another hunt or day fishing.

I’m in Darwin till tomorrow.
Had success this evening and was able to score on a big dry doe. 70ish yards, I was 15 feet in the air and the shot impacted in front of the right shoulder a bit above center and exited behind the left shoulder just clipping the joint where the leg bends. Good shot placement and good bullet performance, ammo is the new Federal HammerDown 44mag 270gr. load, it’s going 1340fps from my 7.5” Blackhawk Hunter, Scope is a Burris 1.5-4x.

Be careful about educating them folks up there. They might want to keep you around! Kudos on the deer!

you were about 100 miles north, & 40-50 miles west of me... I'm right on I-35 by Albert Lea
curious how you ended up in Darwin??? I had to look it up to see where you were... had a brother & Mother that lived in Buffalo, 25-30 miles east of where you were... guess I never went west of Buffalo as far as Darwin
getting to be a lot of Deer & less hunters in MN... I know guys that have 4 or 5 management tags... I love to go, just haven't had much time the last couple years... is Darwin in shotgun, or rifle zone??? we are Shotgun down here, can use handgun as well as Muzzleloader in shotgun season... last couple time I went regular hunting, down here, it was with Contenders, the State park has a special Muzzleloader only season later in the year... done that a few times

The area is a SG/handgun area and so fits me to a T. I wanted to hunt deer in an area besides Texas, and one that has deer of larger body size. I’m doing a review of the Federal ammunition and wanted to have a nice story to go with my normal Texas exploits. I’m in Rapid City SD now and plan on being in Freedom Wy. tomorrow to drop off my FA555 for the removable FP conversion. I left a day earlier than expected due to weather coming in and wanting to have enough time to get to Freedom and still have a day or so for visiting a friend in Idaho Falls. Then it’s up to Missoula for a small family reunion and then a return trip to Freedom to pick up the 555. Randy, I am unable to post picks here but will do so on the HHI site. Trapr

Hey Trapr glad you had a successful hunt!
I'm in southern MN, west of magnumwheelman a little ways. I've got family up near the area you were just in but have never went up hunting with them.
That wind does get old doesn't it! Honestly though at least it was warmer out or it would've been truly miserable. Sunday was a beautiful gem of a morning though.
I had one opportunity when a nice doe started to walk by right where she was supposed to. I didn't have my head on a good enough swivel and she seen or sensed me, snorted and ran off. Brother filled my tag Sunday night, after filling his Friday, so we at least got some deer as a party.
