First off great way to start the season and the tracking job is short on the piggies at least, and the meat is optimal with a head shots. Some parts of Texas hunting would drive me crazy coming from Colorado and I am used to so much public land but then the quality of hunts you get in Texas is just exceptional on a well managed property. The long seasons and variety of game that you have opportunities to take is really something as well.
Hope to get down after the first of the year for some piggies this winter. We will see.

Nicely done Big Bore & I like both of your guns. I'm guessing you still have some deer tags left?

Looking at some of my euro’d hog skulls, the entrance appears to be right at the edge of the brain housing, about 5 o’clock on a perfectly broadside head. Given the curve that immediately follows entry I can easily see where any bullet could have turned.

Tell me about your holster. It’s a homemade chest holster and a prototype. I’m a leather-smith as a side hustle. This one worked extremely well as is however, I’m making one small tweak to it. Instead of the typical location of the retaining strap snap, I’m moving it to where it can be unsnapped with my thumb of the drawing hand, in one motion. Unsnap with my right thumb and draw at the same time, as opposed to two separate movements. Hope that makes sense… Thanks for asking.

Now ya need a pile of mesquite or ? To cook all that on ! Smoke some ? Got plenty of mesquite in these parts and yep, I leave the shoulders and hams whole, on my hogs. Smoke them exactly like I do my briskets. Very slow and pull them when the internal temp is about 203; then let them rest in an empty ice chest for an hour. Unbelievably good and soooo tender!

Like 20 yrs ago I fell into about a rick of osage wood. Serious good, but HOT, grillin' wood. A friend had picked over a bunch for bow wood then hooked me up with the shorter pcs..

I like to cook my hog like that as well. Half goes into bags for instant BBQ and the other half gets made into carne guisada and bagged. So nice to have instant meals on weeknights. On your bullet turning, I believe it (not that anyone was doubting you at all). I almost shot myself shooting a deer at 100 yards. Bullet hit deer, did a 180 and clipped a limb off over my head. FREAKED ME OUT! Bullets can do funny things.
