Yesterday morning I was hunting for whitetails here in North West Louisiana. I was holding my 14” 41 magnum contender and an open sighted 41 magnum bisley lay in my lap. About 50 yards away a doe and yearling popped into the right-of-way looking very nervous, twisting and staring down their back trail.
I would have been happy with either one as I am far from a trophy Hunter and was fortunate to have killed a young 8 point with a rifle last week. As I placed the contender in the tripod and settled in a bit too late they both danced away before I could get a good sight picture. I have seen does react to a trailing buck this way before so I stayed at the ready with high anticipation. Less than a minute later my wait would end as a large bobcat entered the opening. He would slink away in the direction of the 2 deer giving me a chance to breathe and allowing my RPMs to return to normal. It sure was a good morning.
Later we attended a beauty pageant that my 2 year old great niece was in. She was crowned queen in her category so the whole family celebrated with a great fish dinner. It was a good day!

Always fun to see a Bobcat in the wild, it's a rare thing to see. If it's legal & you wanted to shoot it you could have probably stopped it with a soft fawn bleat, just using your mouth, or you could have whispered "Roll Tide"

He stopped long enough to give me a shot had I wanted to. I almost did, but I have never been much for shooting cats or foxes. They are just trying to make a living like the rest of us. I see at least one during the deer season and we are allowed one cat a year. I have stopped them and turned them my way a few times. It is fun to watch them.
Coyotes and pigs are a whole nuther subject. Whatever is in my hand will get thrown at one.

Actually it was cool this morning. I put on 2 regular flannel shirts and was comfortable without being too warm or too cool. It did warm up after church. You know Huey, this far north is soo much colder than way down south!
That is a nice pair of kitties James! Is that your famous 41 magnum? After I made it home I did wish I had shot it. A buddy and I like to cook different things to see if we can make it good enough for seconds. We will try nearly anything once. I figure if people eat mountain lion, then bobcat can’t be terrible. I’ll have to start carrying my 22mag with me now.

Your 22mag should be just the ticket for a good shot at a bobcat.... I have a 6 1/2" Taurus Tracker in 218 Bee that I would love to use if I ever get back to Maine....second gun from top... I`am a sucker for bottleneck cartridge revolvers...

I always say a day in the woods with wildlife is a GREAT day. And when you see something not normally seen, a bonus!
I too went deer hunting yesterday. Our muzzleloader season opened yesterday. A yearling doe,, which I let pass,, and late in the day,, a young small racked 6-pointer. I let him go, as i judged him to be a 1-1/2 yr old. PLUS,, he has a odd rack. His right antler must have gotten damaged at some point,, and it looks like it folded forward as it grew. I nick-named him "Bent-6!" I want a few deer with more meat on their bones.
But like you,, it was a great day in the woods.
As for the bobcats,, I too let them pass. We have very little problems out of those stealthy creatures. And they are fun to watch. I usually see one or two a season myself.

Saw my first bobcat at 20 yds last Nov during deer season. Spent a lifetime in and around the woods and turned 70 in June, nice early birthday present [the bobcat]. Haven't ran across a rattle snake or copper head in the woods while hunting either, have seen them on the roads and killed copperheads on peoples front steps 43 incher, like bobcats they are around, though not always seen.

Bobcat are good eating. Very similar to lean pork in taste, texture & cooking technique. Be a shame to harvest one & let that meat go to waste.

I have decided to shoot the next one I see and cook it. The family isn’t too excited about it, so they can go to Whataburger that day! It has warmed up and the skeeters are bad now. I’ll give it a few days and search recipes while I wait on better field conditions! I also need to make a new set of lightweight shooting sticks. Mine were loaned out and came upon an early demise!

As noted by most here, a good day afield doesn't require the presence of a gut pile.
