Thanks guys, this is a really good spot for several reasons. It has really good cover, good feed & it's isolated, plus it's private but the guy lets me hunt it because I've known him for a long time & one of his kids played ball for me years ago. Most of Idaho is public land but some of the best hunting is private & this is one of those spots. The deer & elk come off of public land & cross onto this place to feed & I get there early & glass for the game trails they make down through the stubble & then take my chances. I've taken several animals here because I can get in the lava reef in between the harvested grain field & the alfalfa. They can actually come from either side but the good part is the wind blows either north or south & the animals travel from either east or west. One of the best places you could ever find. You can see the game trails coming down off of the mountain through the grain fields. The brush just above the grain fields is very thick & about shoulder high in many places, lots of deer hide in there. The only problem this year was, there was a lot of feed everywhere & I hadn't been seeing as many deer or elk as usual, the year before I had my heart surgery I glassed it from about a mile away & it was so full of deer I couldn't even count them & up on the open mountain above the deer were probably 75 elk & I think 13 bulls. I watched as the elk slowly started to stand up & work there way down the mountain & run the deer out of the field. I could have easily killed a good bull that evening. Just as I sent this I got a photo of my 15 yr old grandson, he had just shot a bull elk out there, but a little higher up on the mountain. He shot a bull with his 6.5/06 Improved that his dad built for him at 471 yds. He said the elk were everywhere & they were bulgling like crazy. Lots of bulls were bugling & 2 more grandson's have bull tags. Dick

Nicely done, Dick. I was able to take some of your 250gr. Blue HP’s from my 414sm and do in some prairie dogs this last week. Thanks.

Great story and pictures Dick! You are making me homesick again, lol. I'm hoping to be out that way next year for Elk season. My friend Cheri and I are putting in together. She's a disabled vet from the Airforce. Her husband Wayne was supposed to make the trip with us, but he died from covid 2 years ago.
Anyway, I'm starting to ramble... Congratulations on the hunt.

Glenn, sure hope you get to make it back to Idaho for an elk hunt. Another one of my grandson's got a 6X6 bull today, the season ends today or tomorrow. Grandson Brock got his bull today, good thing, tomorrow is the last day. Five of them are out in a big snow storm getting it out right now. Dick

The great place living where you do where is hunting is a time honored tradition. A couple phone calls and a young man should have all the help to pack out a bull he could need! I am envious…
