Worked well when shot placement is spot on. Shot Cor-Bon's 440 gr hard cast.

I guess the .375 JDJ has accounted for a lot of Elephants for a handgun. Was it JDJ that had the .44 Magnum with either Tungsten bullets or some other metal made up for Elephant hunting?

leftysixgun -- Shot placement on elephant -- Many PHs prefer the brain shot, which drops the animal instantly (IF hit properly). I've hunted with some who leaned toward body shots.
pacecars - The 375 JDJ has accounted for several elephants. I took my first one in 1984 with the 375 JDJ. Can't remember the 44 bullet you mention that JD made or had made. If I remember correctly, JD took his elephant with a 45-70. I should remember, I was standing next to him! After taking a cape buffalo a couple of weeks ago with Buffalo Bore's Mono bullet in their Dangerous Game ammo, I'd consider this for any big critters.

Steve... I'm picturing the Flintstones scene from the opening of that show, that shows them at a drive in, & the car hop hangs this monster rib looking thing on the car, & it tips over... ![](https://i.ibb.co/NSFgq7S/JOB1815-Brandler-Galleries-107.jpg)

Makes me wonder how long an elephant rack of ribs would take to get "falling off the bone" tender??? in reality, probabaly have to roast them over a bonfire because of the size ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I recently acquired a copy of Karamojo Safari by Bell and it is amazing how he tells if dropping elephants right and left with what we would consider “pea shooter” guns! Either a perfect example of creative writing or proof in the adage that shot placement trumps bullet mass.

Also having read of him taking birds in flight with a handgun,……..so yes either colorful writing or a very capable shooter.
