Back in about 1990 I found a deal on a late 70s vintage NM .41 BH. Had a clamp on Weaver base, 2X Leupold Scope and Herrett's Shooting Star stocks...for $165...
The Shooting Star grips are a little larger and longer than stock and fill in behind the trigger guard so you don't get knuckle-slapped.
I see them used on Ebay quite often...

Bob Shooting Star grips were great grips to be a stock item. I had some on a Charter Arms Undercover and they really made that little gun easy to shoot.

check the auction sites and look for herretts stocks. I tried Pachmyer, Ahh No. Directed all recoil right into the hand and ugly as homemade sin. Tried the Houge oversized with finger groves, great grip just too chunky for my short fat fingers. Finally hit on the Herretts. FYI I don't care for the feel of Bisley and although uncommon I'm not the only one. I would definitely try that before I put that kind of $ into it. YMMV

I don't have small hands, and I have no problem using the XR3-RED grip frame with my pinky finger on the grip. I have just enough room and it's comfortable for me with the standard wooden grip panels. My Flattop Blackhawk 44 Special, I didn't like the XR3 grip frame at all. My hand felt bunched up, so I replaced it with an XR3-Red frame, stainless. I even wrote and article about it, not about the gunsmithing, but about how Mr Taffin started the love affair with the gun. My Two-Tone Single Action Sixgun; Ruger’s Flattop Blackhawk 44 Special.

My other site has taken over most of my time lately. I wish I'd had the forethought to get pictures and detail the process of fitting the grip frame. I am pretty handy, so I was able to figure it out after some research, but I noticed there wasn't a good tutorial on it anywhere I could find.
