Got this sight unseen in a swap deal. I was told it was trashed and paid accordingly. All I was hoping for was the upper portion of the backstrap to be ok so I could play with a No. 5 build. What do you guys think? Salvage it for something (or someone) else and stay the XR3-RED course on the OM .45, or proceed with no. 5 by splicing the upper half of this backstrap onto an OM steel XR3-RED?

If you'd like to sell it and go buy another frame, I'd be interested in it.

That grip frame as is will not grace any of my guns. I have found (three different guns/calibers) that SA's with round butts do not shoot consistently in my hands. I like having that piece of metal and wood backed up into the heel of my hand.
Sure look nice though.
Also this grip frame to be used as is has to have the locator dowel moved. I can't imagine a conscientious grip maker who would put a dowel pin 1/16" from the edge on anything befitting a bisley grip frame.
not to mention the round but conversion is not square.

I have made up my mind.
I will be cutting and fitting the top half of this backstrap to a steel OM XR3-RED for installation on my OM .45 Colt IF it is not too narrow (since it has already been fitted).
If it's not more than $50, I may also have the leftover parts welded up into a bastard bisley for something else.
