JAMES, THANKS FOR THE POST. FOR THOSE UNFAMILIAR WITHT THE JET, PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT 2,460fps IN A REVOLVER WAS BS. THE JET WAS A PROBLEMATIC, ILL DESIGNED CARTRIDGE WITH SERIOUS SET BACK ISSUES. IMHO, S&W SHOULD HAVE GONE WITH A BEE BASED CARTRIDGE. I OWN 6 OR SO MODEL 53 JETS BUT THE ONLY ONE THAT GETS ANY USE IS A 6" WITH A 22 K-HORNET CYLINDER. I WANT TO REVISIT THE 22 JET "ONE OF THESE DAYS" BUT THE 327 IS A FAR BETTER CHOICE FOR A LOW RECOIL, FLAT SHOOTING, SMALL CRITTER GETTER.

I have only had one and it was a 6 inch barreled version and was a flame thrower with factory ammo but was accurate as hell. Coyotes weren’t too fond of it. I kept the cylinders oil free and dry and never had any setback issues. Only a sample of one gun

I still find myself looking for another 6 inch Model 53 every now and then. If I every find one with the extra cylinder at a decent price I may be in trouble

I HAVE 6 JETS AND I DO NOT KNOW WHY I KEEP CLINGING TO THEM, NO RATIONAL REASON, BUT I AM JUST NOT READY TO MOVE 'em.

What people don't understand is the Model 53/.22 Jet was made to be a "HUNTING" handgun not a "shooter/range gun". The concept was conceived just when the sport of handgun hunting came to be...develop a load, sight it in, hunt with it.... Blow through ammo like a .38 Special and the barrel will be ruined in no time. Mine was bought in about 1974...6" with both cylinders. It was my only .22 handgun except for a Ruger MKI (that I only owned for a couple of years) till the early 1990s when I started teaching shooting. Killed tons of small game with it with both the Jet and LR cylinders and by the early 2000s the forcing cone looked like a funnel and there was a loose spot in the barrel....but it was still exceeding accurate. When I downsized my DA .22 revolver collection to just a handful the 53 stayed but didn't get shot much. After getting into the .327 Federal I contacted Jack Huntington who said it would be one of the easiest conversions he has ever done...take-off and rebore barrel, rechamber cylinder and screw the barrel back on.. Sent the burned out barrel (had found a period correct replacement) and Rimfire cylinder to JRH and in a few months it was returned. Still have the replacement barrel and .22 Jet cylinder if anyone in the future wants to turn it back to the original caliber. Factory ammo from a 6" barrel runs in the 1800 fps range. I'll have to look to make sure but I think from a 10" TC it was 2660. The gun/loads have had very little case sticking or setback/lockup problems... So for small game and varmints I buy a FA 97/.327/6.5"...and what do I go and do...buy a 7.5" 97 in .224/.32 and put the .327 up for sale... ...some people never learn...
