I would post this on the USFA forum...but nobody lives there. Have two USFA caliber 32 WCF; one with 4 5/8's barrel and one with 7.5" barrel. Same identical load shoots 4" low in short barrel and 4" high in long barrel, both at 50'. No surprise, but I want the short barrel to shoot POA, 6 o'clock hold with that load. Thus the front sight needs to be lower. I have heard of filing the front sight down, but is there any way to do it short of trial and error...which could take a long time. My last go at trigonometry was in 1957 so do not remember much about that.

Groo here Are you holding the guns the same? same grips? What is your bullet weight, speed? An 8 inch change for that distance with the same make and cal gun but different barrels has me wondering---- also file and shoot is the only real way it don't take much..

mhblaw, heres a system I use for determining how much to move my sights and it works everytime. For ease of quickness I'll use some simple dimensions. Lets say your sight radius (distance between front and rear sight planes) is 10 inches. The distance you want to correct for is 10 yards (360 inches). If you divide 360 by 10 you get a factor of 36. If your gun is shooting 2 inches low at that range you need to take the factor of 36 and divide that into 2 inches. That comes out to be .055 of an inch. If you just replace your distances with mine and use the same process you will get the results you need just remember when working with the front sight you need to remove material to raise the point of impact and add material to lower the point of impact.

I like your suggestion rep1954. It would appear that it doesn't take much filing to change point of impact.
