Getting in practice and all sighted in. Ruger 44 mag hunter with leupold 2x and a S&W 686. The 686 is probably getting a red dot for up close hunting! First time handgun hunting and I'm pretty excited!  |

welcome to the family! Its a great obsession to have, and i hope the excitement lasts for years like it has for me. The first time you put your sights on an animal will be some of the most intense buck fever you'll ever feel! Enjoy the ride, its pretty kool.

I think it's going to be a 357 deer year here. Planning on a Security Six, Old Model 6.5", Maximum 7.5" Blackhawk, and maybe even breaking back out the old Contender 10". We get 7 tags here and my area is very over-populated.

Dick,, I may miss a shot here & there,, or screw up,, but sheesh,, I'd rather shoot extra rounds on the range, (or at coyotes) than mess up any more deer meat than necessary! Besides I haven't missed a shot at a deer in a while with a firearm. The only downside,, is using a crossbow causes me to be extra careful about selection of shots. We can use archery type equipment on either sex during the very long archery season. We can use a muzzleloader on either sex during the (2) week BP season. But my firearm season, we get (2) weeks of either sex, out of a (7) week season. And the peak rut is usually during the BP season. To get my does to fill my freezer,, I hunt more now with a crossbow or a muzzleloader. I wish I still had a friend with lots of land in SC,, where it's also very liberal with guns & tags. Sadly,, he moved & dropped his leases. |

I live in a different zone than Contender where we are fortunate enough to have either sex legal all season but no gamelands nearby. It's all private land or the Urban archery season in a few limits of the towns or parks.

WAITING ON A BIG EVENT TO OCCUR AT THE END OF THE MONTH, IF ALL GOES AS HOPED, I WILL HAVE 2 BUCKS AND 2 DOES AT 1 LEASE, THAT WILL NOT COUNT AGAINST MY STATE TAGS, AND SEVERAL MORE DEER AVAILABLE AT ANOTHER PLACE.
