The Model 69, is great !
When I am done with this post I am going to grab Brother John's book of the .44 and see if he had anything to say about it !
I put my Target on a stump, walked 30 paces to my old Jeep, put a rolled up sleeping bag on the hood, and resting my wrists on the bag, shot 5 skeeter's , Just to get the feel. 3 of the rounds were touching , quite high, and the other 2, were just a few inches higher,
I put the Skeeters away, this is a magnum , after all, Next up was a 260 grain Rim Rock SWC, Over 21.5 Grains of IMR 4227.
I Fired 5 of those in the same fashion, and got Much closer to point of aim, and all in a nice tight group.
Recoil was not near as bad as I thought it might be. No Cream puff, but certainly not intimidating.
I think a Taller front sight is in order, but I think this site is good enough, I was about 1.5 inches high at about 60 feet.
I then Fired some factory Federal 240 Grain HPs, And they were a little more stout. But Shot very close to point of aim.
My 4 5/8ths SBH was along for the ride for Comparison purposes. I shot it a little better, but it has a very light trigger pull, and a Bowen Rough country rear sight.
Got the revolver's home, and did some measuring. The little Smith Throats would take a .429 Pin Gage, But not a .30. I think I will clean The thing better and try again.
I could get a .003 feeler in the Barrel Cylinder Gap, but not a .005. The Cylinder Length 1.675, while the Ruger is 1.700. So I think you would probably be OK with some fairly heavy bullets.
I am Very Very happy to own this little GEM. And I think Smith Should Expand on the Idea with a series of L Frame Mountain Revolvers. A 5 inch Version in .41 Magnum would be just about the Perfect Packing Pistol...tj
