Plan to meet a man about a SnW model 69 tomorrow. Any particular ware points a guy should on this model ? Some may of you guy's seem to like them and a guy said he would swap for a little used hunting rifle. Looking at gundroker the value stacks up well on my end so unless I find a flaw or he backs out I should have a 4.25 inch MDL69 tomorrow....tj

Reality is that unless it had some production flaw it should be fine. No one would have shot it enough to have hurt it.

S&W has a lifetime warranty and according to the Brian Pearce article in Handloader, the Model 69 was engineered with that in mind. Any used gun without obvious mishandling should be a good trade. I am enjoying a DA revolver for the first time in years with my new 69.

Mine had grossly undersized throats at .428". I got Dave Clements to open them to .430", then I honed them up to .4305".
Replaced the thumb latch with one designed to cover the safety hole.
It's now one of my most highly regarded woods carry guns.

I may be wrong as I've only seen a couple. But it seems like the 4" gun has a ball detent that looks like Bubba did it. The 2" gun has a much more professional looking arrangement. I have the 4" version and although I've never had a hiccup out of it, that ball looks ready to fail any time.

S&W has apparently changed the ball detent lockup from the earlier version to a more robust design on my 4 1/4" gun. The ball locks solidly into a detent in the frame.

I purchased my first 69 a 4.25" in late 2014 or early 15, shoot it and love it. I purchased the 2.75" 69 in April of this year. Shoot it and love it. Never had a problem with either. the 4" has the old style lockup and it has never given me a problem. My N frames stay in the safe and one of the other, depending on mood, 69s go with me to the range and the woods. Put VZ grips on mine. The early 4" shot a little high and I ordered and installed the next higher front sight blade and problem solved. The 4" is the most accurate 44 I own, and that includes some nice N frames.
I'd buy them both again!!!
