Folks, I have a K frame 38 sp I’d like to gift one of my daughters. I inherited it from my grandpa (has the primer striker on the hammer but other than that don’t know it’s vintage, guessing 60s or early 70s) and it’s something I’d never have bought because it’s neither fish nor fowl. It’s got full size square butt grips on square butt frame, K size, and less than 2” barrel. Literally WHAT is such a thing OPTIMAL for? It sits in the safe lonely now, as opposed to under the seat cushion of grandpas couch where it lived before. Anyways, daughter has been very interested in getting a revolver for home defense since moving out last year, but she hasn’t prioritized it. I got to thinking this AM maybe I can make this thing work, and gift it. Thing is, she’s only 5’ tall , meaty hands with little short fingers. These S&W target type grips would be impossible for her (although I can keep them as spares for my M19).
Any suggestions? First time down this road for me, I’ve always been going in the other direction with grips.
As always, appreciate your experience, thoughts and input.

If I remember correctly I’d call them Target. SW version of kinda sorter like a Roper grip.

Try Altamont Magnas, thinner than EOM Magnas. Have a set on a K frame SQ Butt with Tyler T. ideal combo for small hands short fingers.

Thanks Ezekiel38, that’s EXACTLY the situation I’m trying to solve for! I was hoping mfg would put the scales thickness in their description, but I’ve not seen it. I’m off to check out Altamont now…..

Question ? Service Panel or Classic Panel? Or are they all same thickness? I can contact them if unknown, and will post back for others reference.

I can't answer that question, but their CS desk should and would. The Altamonts I have are about 2/3s the thickness of factory magnas.

Ok folks here is the skinny from Altamont. The Service Panels are the thinner of their two Magna styled grips. Service panels are “flat”, and the Classic panels are fuller with a radiused top surface.
Thanks again to all that recommended Magna style, and to those that specifically recommended Altamont as being thinner than the OEM models.

I have what I believe must be the same gun, so I was going to suggest this but someone beat me to it, mine is a Model 15, 2" barrel 38 Special S&W and I have the original magna grips on mine with a Tyler T-grip and I like the set-up a lot.
