I don't go hunting for collectible guns, because I like to shoot them too much, and don't want to be constantly worried about diminishing their value or fretting over the unavoidable minor dings and blemishes that come with honest use. But today I came across this beauty, and since I have a weakness for all things .32, I just couldn't pass it up. 1939 Colt Officer's Model in .32 Police (.32 S&W Long) in better shape than any other gun of comparable vintage I own. This one will be shot, and I can't wait to try it out. The ammo came with it - a nearly full box of Winchester 98 grain S&W Long marked $3.85, and a partial box containing 10 rounds of 85 grain S&W marked $3.30.    Factory bead blasted top strap, hammer and frame, and checkered (not grooved) backstrap.  And checkered trigger.  |

I was looking a 38 sp3cial version of the same gun today.
It had just a hint of a turn ring. I wanted it, but 1300.00 was to much...tj

odessaman: FOR ANY aficionado OF THE 32's THE COLT OFFICERS MODEL 32 IS (OR SHOULD BE) THE GRAIL GUN. IIRC, THEY ARE ALL PRE-WAR AND SCARCE. IT IS BUILT ON A BIGGER FRAME THAN THE S&W K FRAME, HAS SUPREME REFINEMENTS AS NOTED IN YOUR PICTURES, AND CAN SHOOT. WILL TRY TO POST A PICTURE OR 2 OF MINE LATER TODAY.

I’m not a Colt guy for double actions, but my uncle bought a 38sp target gun from 1910 that is all sorts of cool. And 32 cal has a real soft spot in me heart. That gun is a dandy for sure.

What a beauty! I don’t have .32 cal anything, and don’t look for such.

MY PRE-WAR 32 AND 38 SPECIAL OM's HAVE A "HEAVY BARREL" MARKING BUT MY PRE-WAR 22lr DOES NOT. SOME PRE-WAR OFFICIAL POILICE REVOLVERS IN 38 SPECIAL CAME WITH A "HEAVY BARREL", BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN AN OFFICIAL POLICE IN 32-20 WITH A "HEAVY BARREL". I HAVE NEVER SEEN NOR HEARD OF AN ARMY SPECIAL (THE PREDECESSOR TO THE PRE-WAR OFFICIAL POLICE) NOR ANY OFFICIAL POLICE REVOLVER IN 32, WHICH MAKES THE OM's IN 32, BUILT ON THE SAME FRAME AS THE ARMY SPECIAL/OFFICIAL POLOICE, EVEN RARER.
ADDED 7/17/22: THE CORRECT TERM IS OFFICERS MODEL NOT OFFICER'S MODEL, A COMMON MISNOMER.

I never have been all that interested in Colt DA's either - I've always felt that Smiths and Rugers filled my DA needs. If I hadn't seen the "32" in the title of this Officers Model listing, I likely would have passed it by as well - at first, thought it was a typo. One thing I have been seeking is a shooter grade S&W Model 16 in .32 S&W Long or .32 H&R, so I was mainly looking to scratch my itch for a larger framed .32. Just glad the seller responded quickly to my inquiry, and was available to meet me rather soon after. After doing quite a bit of research late into yesterday evening and reading the kind comments here, I think I've used up my "gun find luck" for awhile with this one. Hope to post a range report soon. |
