For those of you that might remember I was wondering what kind of sporting rifles were popular during this era. Thanks

I'd suggest Mauser Sporters. Here's a couple of Walther Model B's. A 7x57 on the left and an 8x57 on the right. A rebored "30 US Government" 35 Whelen J.P. Sauer and Son. The BRNO's small rings were nice too, a 7x57 here. A Husqvarna built FN 9.3x62. Or a plain old FN Supreme 30-06. Bottom line, it was likely a Mauser....

I own a Rem 30-06 pump that was made between 1958-1960 . I don't know how popular they were back then but with a 2-7 scope its my go to Whitetail gun for times I know I wont be shooting over 250 yards . Its a Remington Gamemaster .

Winchester 70's, reworked Mauser 98 and DCM Springfields. The later were the most popular because you could buy them for $15 each delivered to your door with 100 rounds of ammo.
