I asked Trent, AKA Pleadthe2nd, to take a stab at building me some BFR Grips.
Sent him some Black Walnut that came from a tree on my grandparent's homepage.
He sent pictures today and I couldn't be more pleased.
Trent is a hobbyist grip maker with a great future if he decides to make it a business.
More after Tim posts pictures...

Thanks Tim...
Actually, Tim is the person who turned me on to Trent's Gripmaking.
I'd sent some of this Walnut to Lee Martin and Alan Harton some years back. Had some grips made and put some blanks in my shed. They've been drying there for years.
This tree was there when I was a kid. But, I don't know how old it could have been.
This land was deeded over to my ancestors in 1862 from part of the original Louisiana Purchase. I still have the original abstract printed on cotton. The ancestor was illiterate and the deed is signed with an "X."
So, these grips are very important to me. Historic Louisiana Puchase, Ancestors and a good friend to make beautiful grips.
Trent worries something won't be perfect. He's Right!!! Nothing ever is. But, knowing their great history makes them perfect for me.
The grips are for my early BFR 500 JRH/50 AE 7.5".
Notice he even hand crafted the little overhang to cover the uneven seams some BFRs have...

Huey, I'm thrilled that you like the grips. A fun hobby for now, too many furnaces, and air conditioners, to install to take this to full time, but I sure enjoy it. I couldn't make 2 identical pair if I tried, and that's part of the fun. Thank you very much for letting me craft that "special walnut " -edit to add- hobby for now , but could turn into an obsession, searching for wood online, is like p*rn for me, haha

These will work out great for me. I've slowly replaced grips on all four of my BFRs.
My goal for 2022 is to finish all outstanding projects. This is part of that plan.
Clements is finishing my last batch of guns before he retires. Three revolvers to be "Customized" and two full blown "Customs."
I'll probably still do projects along, but will never recreate the mess I made before.
Guess it's just part of getting old. Maybe a revolver a year in the future? Occasionally a TC Barrel, set of revolver grips, etc.
