Always been a fan of the 348 since my dad collects Winchesters and I shot his 71s growing-up. In the late 90's I bought a Browning 71 and got further hooked on the round. So hooked that I wanted to chamber it in a bolt gun. The only problem was I didn't have a Siamese Mauser action on hand. So the challenge went out to my dad....figure a way to make it work in a CZ 24 Mauser 98. After some serious magazine and rail work, he made it happen. That was back in 2000 and since then I hadn't shot the gun much. Finally got it back to the range on Saturday: The magazine holds 3 rounds, plus one in the chamber (cycles perfectly). Barrel by Douglas and the stock is a Butler Creek. The nice thing is you can push the round a little harder in a 98. Not sure if there are any 348 fans here, but I thought I'd share this old project. Most of you will ask, "why a 348 bolt gun". Why not just build a 35 Whelen? There's no sensible answer other than I like the cartridge and my dad wanted to see if he could make it work on a Mauser. Anyone else here shoot 348? -Lee www.singleactions.com

Very nice gun with an under appreciated round . As a retired heavy eguipment field machanic I love that make it work mentality and doing things that does't seem logical to other folks.

Well, yeah, I'm a 348 owner/shooter (20" Browning). I never thought I'd have to specify what rifle beyond Browning or Winchester though! In the old McGowen Rifle Barrels "catalog" he always talked about being able to make up Siamese Mausers on .348-based wildcats but I never thought too much about it beyond that.
But hey, as one who wants a .35 Remington bolt action, a .357 AutoMag lever action, and other oddball combinations- I salute you!

Nicely done. My father bought me a 71 deluxe with a bolt peep that I love. How about some more pictures of the feed rails and the magazine Lee.

I always wanted to shoot a 348. And I really like that Marlin. Was told once that the 71 was one of Winchesters smoothest lever actions.
