"On that subject, what would you consider reasonable cost to hunt free range hogs?? Handgun?? With basic accommodations?? "
For my purposes,, I'd prefer a hunt closer to home, (WNC) and I'd handle my accommodations, (If necessary,) and I do my own butchering. As for a guide,, I wouldn't necessarily need one,, as long as I had an introduction as to the property boundaries.
I like to my own scouting,, and hunt my way. So,, basically, I'd be looking at a place where the owner has problem hogs,, wanting them removed,, or a very low property access fee. South Carolina has problem hogs & would be close enough for me to travel easily. Even Georgia wouldn't be out of the question or the eastern half of Tenn.
I know,, my desires are different than most.

Given the current cost of fuel, I think out of state hunts are going to be pared down by most. Most of the landowners I’ve had the privilege of dealing with consider “liability” very seriously, this limits access, on top of that knowing their land will be treated with respect is also important and that knowledge does not come over night. So gaining access quickly without carrying “liability insurance” is almost impossible. The ranches I have “free” access to did not happen overnight, the relationship took time and I have dealt with two generations of owners.

True enough. Gas prices are a factor in many things right now.
Liability issues. VERY well understood. I own a gun range & the liability insurance etc is why I limit access to certain things.
In my case,, I'm a hunter,, and prefer to possibly hunt my way & have a certain flexibility in how I hunt. I do understand not having folks wander around,, or drive around disturbing others, OR presenting a safety issue. I just keep looking at the possibility of a closer to home,, depredation type of hunt,, where a handgun can be used. Sadly,, too many guided hunts are on places with people who do not understand handgun hunters, or the capabilities of a handgun.

We do not have any BS at handgun hunters challenge. The sheets and pillow cases are clean. The food is good and the meat is well taken care of. Check it out at wildernesshuntinglodge.com or call Alcorn at 662-902-3504.

I hear ya! I just don't know if I could afford such a hunt. If I were to go to the HHC,, I'd want to take on a few critters a bit bigger than the plain old pigs. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Great reading. For the 475, I suggest you try the Arsenal molds 476-415. A dandy semi wadcutter with a wide flat nose. A pig/deer hammer and very effective on large bears.
