Tell me about your experiences with the Rock River LAR-8... Local buddy is all fired up about ordering a couple. He pointed me to a web page with a glowing review... Knowledge of Rock River's glowing 1911 reputation is my limit... Anybody got one, shot one, saw one etc...

Getting a lot of positive comments from local rifle guys... Only real negative has been a criticism of the trigger from a shooter who is known to have a weak trigger finger....

Here is the story on 308 black rifles. Armalite uses a modified m14 mag, and has feeding problems. DPMS uses there own mag, and they have no feeding issues. Magpul makes mags for the dpms, and I confidently use them as well. RRA uses FAL mags. I don't have personal experience, but my 3 smiths who build 308 caliber AR type rifles will only use DPMS for big caliber. The same three will use most anything for a 223 rifle. Hope this helps.

Leaning real hard toward the RRA LAR-8. Got more good feedback from people who use them...

Axe, I handled them at the shot show in 2006. I have had several on order since but have never seen one (other than shot show).

... Armalite uses a modified m14 mag, and has feeding problems.... Sounds like the Axe man is all set for a RRA, but just FWIW I have never had a single malfunction with my Armalite AR10(T). Not one.

I'm glad you had better luck than I did. I went through two rifles going back to the factory after multiple failures to feed in the first mag. Local smith said he switched to DPMS and never looked back. I followed suit, and have been happy ever since.

RRA just called and said I would have a mid length LAR-8 in "4-6 weeks". I've heard that before.

I sure do hate to hear that Gary.... Any idea what the hangup is? I might not have a lot of heartburn if they are overcome delivering on military contracts but if there are issues with the rifles I may start looking at something else...
