It is one of the guns John Gallagher finished for me as a surprise just before he died. I have always been captivated by JT's SS$ gun that he had Bill Grover make when several friends got together to have tribute 44 Special guns made in honor of Skeeter Skelton near the end of his life. Johns was and old model 357 converted to 44 Special that Grover had modified to a two piece grip frame, one piece ivories, TLA front sight, Colt style ejector rod and TLA #5 style base pin. I actually bought the TLA parts from you Steve and sent them to John along with a Powers two piece grip frame, a set of ivories and my one modification from the original, a Clements bisley spurred hammer. While JT's gun has SS4 on the bottom of the main frame in front of the trigger guard, I had John put JT/SS. It only came about due to your help Steve! What parts on that revolver are TLA?

The base pin and front sight and I may have gotten the ejector rod from Steve out of his TLA parts supplies as well. Powers apparently was not making the grip frames when JT's gun was built so Grover modified one to work with one piece grips. Ron offering his version saved the fabrication process. I think these were about the same parts Bill Grover added to his SS$ gun he built for John. One thing that I do want to change on my gun is having a higher polish level then blue to closer match the original SS4 gun. You can find a picture of and the story behind the SS4 gun on page 216 of Single Action Sixguns.

Very nice, Robb! Glad I could be of assistance in such a worthy cause. I need to dig out pics of my Clements SS1 clone. May we be able to burn powder together some fine day with these two revolvers.
