Even I would have jumped on that! As long as it was in usable shape, as that is what I'd do with one.
I don't know my Smiths, but if it's the 3" 357 I'm thinking of, that's (to me) as close to a "grail gun" as 3" 357s go. I'm a big fan of 3" 357s.

I'll bite. What is so special about the Smith 13 3 inch revolvers? A couple of them on Gunbarker that have 500 dollar openings and no bids.

For ME, it's just that the 3" 357 is about the most useful, all 'round revolver I could have on my person under just about ANY circumstances. If I had to limit myself to ONE DA revolver, it would be a 3" 357. Don't have a Smith in that configuration and older Smiths tend to be nicer than anyone is offering NEW these days.

I have the new Colt King Cobra 3" 357 and it has earned first chair in my range bag. Fits my hands perfectly with the factory Hogues, brass bead front sight, full underlug, six in the wheel, 28ozs and it shoots POA with a variety of loads. And it handles 357 SD ammo (125s at 1200) very nicely. It will be my last 357 to go.

I get it. Yeah, I could see that as a "do all" kind of firearm. So is it basically a beefed up model 10?

..the FBI S&W Mod 13 3" was the last revolver they issued before going over to auto pistols. my roomate from ocs got his issued just after completing their school and kept it after 30 years of service - with the roundbutt pachmayr he put on it as soon as he got it after being advised by a senior agent... compact, powerful - what's not to like? for whatever reason, i bought one in '88, they still came in the blue box, and have kept it - without ever having fired it.... i know, what an idiot, right? it's just that when i saw my first stainless speed six - it took my heart away... and now after all those years (30+), i retired that gun and replaced it with a 3"gp100: www.rugerforum.net/threads/3-gp100-silk-purse-sows-ear.390471/#post-4532998..and i still ooh and ahh over that nib model 13....

THAT is beautiful!
That's how they should be making revolvers today.

The 3" 65 and 13 are as as perfect a concealed carry revolver as it gets... The round butt frame can take a wide assortment of grips, 3" barrel doesn't have the muzzleblast of the 2" Js and has a full length ejector rod.
Don't have a 13 3" but do have a 547/3"/9mm, 65/3"/.357 and 66/3"/.357/adjustable sights...just perfect balance...

I had a 3" M-10 that got sold when I thinned out the safe contents before we moved 120 miles to a different city. Last fall I was offered a trade in 3" M-13 for the same price offered here so I bought it. In retrospect I should have kept the M-10.
The slightly longer Magnum cylinder makes it feel heavier, or not as well balanced as the 38 Special version, at least to me. Add to that, the K-frames of this vintage don't like much full power ammo, as I saw demonstrated by my department's issue M-66s. The deputies who preferred the revolver carried and trained (including qualification) with Magnum ammunition. The department had more failures with the K-frames than I was ever comfortable with.
YMMV, Dave
PS: As a firearms trainer and someone who's carried a gun my entire adult life if you count the military, I've never proscribed to the "practice with 38s and carry Magnums" mind set.
