Ivory is my favorite material for grips. Just something about it. Since it's hard to get,, my second choice is Bighorn sheep followed by Dall sheep.
I call them "Elegant!"
And those grips are truly "elegant!"

IVORY IS SPECIAL. BACK WHEN I WAS SAFARI'ing ON A REGULAR BASIS, I REMEMBER SEEING SOME IVORY TARGET STOCKS FOR AN N FRAME IN ZIMBABWE, NO WAY I COULD HAVE LEGALLY BROUGHT THEM BACK.

I bet they looked good! I’ve given some thought to making a set of N frame cokes out of the chunks I have left but it would sure take a lot of material. may give it a shot with one of the other kinds of ivory since they’re easier to come by.

Zane, what kind of other ivory would be big enough to make a set of N frame stocks? Would Hippo be big enough, I'm thinking about going back & maybe shooting one but not sure because of the ruckus in Europe, you just never know. I'd like to take one on land if possible.

Dick Dick, I’ve seen pictures of hippo tusks that were quite large but the widest section was pretty hollow. I think magna style grips would be about it for an N frame. the fossil ivory’s like mammoth would work, as would walrus. I’ve got a pair of blanks I’m thinking about trying it on if I can ever find the time.

I have a set of hippo ivory grips for the XR3-red grip frame and they are good and solid but I don’t know if the original tusks would have been large enough for N frame target grips.

Dick Hippo with a pistol is probably the top in handgun megafauna hunting, especially in a species with populations big enough to do so under the umbrella of funding conservation. My vote is to do it while it's available, regardless of European events. A hippo European mount is the ultimate desk adornment. I wish Colombia was open to hippo hunting. That would be the optimal scenario.

PUT SOME N FRAME TARGET GRIPS OFF A 25-5 UP AGAINST SOME GOOD SIZED HIPPO TUSKS. THE TUSKS ARE MOUNTED ON A WALL PLAQUE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A PIA TO TAKE OFF THE WALL SO I WAS NOT ABLE TO REALLY LOOKS AT THE TUSKS FROM MOST ANGLES. THESE TUSKS MAY WORK FOR N FRAME TARGET GRIPS BUT A LOT DEPENDS ON HOW HOLOOW THEY MAY BE FOR HOW LONG. THESE TUSKS WILL STAY MOUNTED. I HAVE AN UNMOUNTED SMALLER SET THAT I DOUBT ARE N FRAME TARGET GRIP MATERIAL.

really tempted to give it a try but due to the natural rounded shape i'm not sure they'll still be wide enough once all the inletting is done. may copy the blank shape out of wood and see if it'll work. they would make a heck of a set for a GP100 or SRH though.
