Well, I broke down and bought a scope for my BFR. Never shot a scope on a revolver. I was planning on taking it to Montana on a black bear hunt in May, but unfortunately had to postpone due to ridiculous fuel prices. Oh well, I have plenty of time to stretch the legs out with this setup before I head back out west for my next hunt.

Only concern is whether I should have bought a 3rd ring

Not necessary for 44 mag, but I don't know what caliber your BFR is , I think it's recommended for 454 and up

Looking at the scope mount on that, it sure extends far out front. Has anyone cut one of those factory mounts back, so you can lower the scope on the gun with shorter rings? Just a thought

Yes, I cut my mount back and used lower rings. I've gotten by with two rings on a 454 also.

I’d cut the mount after adding a third ring, the need for more grip on your scope is more of a weight/recoil thing than simply caliber. The weight of your gun, weight of your scope, weight of your rings and recoil all determine the need. I’ve got three rings on a 41 mag because the torque caused the scope to rotate in the rings, but I’ve had no issue with the stock ring set up on my Blackhawk Hunter in 44mag, or SRH in 454, but my 414, and FA555 wear 4 rings because of movement.

Well, I just got done sending the first couple cylinders worth of ammo downrange with the scope attached. As I figured, the angry bee feel of shooting a redot showed similarities with the scope. Shooting from my short turkey chair and grip supported between my knees, everything felt great but will take time getting used too. Sent some factory Barnes .454 with xpb bullet (1700 fps rated). Scope did not shift whatsoever. In the coming days, I hope to get my heavy .45 Colt handloads put through it and dial it in.

I cut back the mounts on both my 45-70 and 500 JRH… and use 2 rings, but am using Leopold Mark 4 rifle rings (2)

Burris makes a great set of rings, the Leopold, which I also have, are made in China, and only have 2 screws per ring, the Burris has 4, they are almost 2 x the cost though, red loctite always goes on my scope ring screws, some here say clear finger nail polish works better, I will be trying that on my next set.

Ok, this was my 2nd time shooting a scope on a revolver. This time, it was with my heavy .45 Colt loads.....385 grain cast hollow point from GT bullets and a nice dose of H110. These bullets are scooting out of the barrel at an average of 1289 fps. This target was at only 25 yards. Still getting used to shooting scope and was shot with my hand supported between my knees with plenty of coffee pumping through me. I sure hope I can tighten this up, as I can shoot tighter with iron sights. I am very surprised by the scope. It is clear, has taken some stuff recoil and the turrets came set on zero for both elevation and windage and is hitting pretty much right on. I think I may get a revolver rest to further dial it in if needed. Lower left shot was first shot and from a cold bore.
