Thinking about having Chad at Chig’s make some grips for my .454 Casull. What do y’all think about these exhibition Desert Ironwood?

I have never pulled the grip frame off an FA but I remember seeing a tutorial on here somewhere

I HAVE ZILCH EXPERIENCE IN FIRING FA MODEL 83's WITH ANYTHING BUT PACHMAYRS, AND HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THE RECOIL CHARACTERISTICS OF FACTORY STYLE GRIPS, BUT FOR LOOKS, THOSE IRON WOOD BLANKS LOOK VERY NICE.

I like your wood choice but I've had mixed results with Chigs. Its not a negative, I think he bridges a needed gap between full blown custom grip makers and guys just looking for a reasonably priced set of grips for their $500 Ruger. Value is so subjective between people, and for $100 custom grips some are willing to overlook flaws or maybe they don't even notice them. I've seen a lot of guys completely giddy about his work. For me, next time I will pay more and wait longer with someone other than Chigs. Here's my last one from him. I sent him the grip frame, came back with a huge gap on the one side. Also, and its hard to see in the photos, is a small knot or hole at the bottom of the grip in the 2nd photo. This is reasonable I believe in a $100 set of grips but for me I think I want better. YMMV of course.

Well, I can’t say as I blame you but I have a couple sets of Chig’s grips and they certainly don’t look like that. I didn’t even send my grip frame in and they fit better than yours. I’ve only talked to Chad a couple times but I’m betting he’d make that good. Have you asked him ?

The grips I've gotten have been higher than $100, usually double that or so, from him but all have fit seamlessly and are of the best woods. I'm sure he would make those grips right for you.

This is another from Chigs, same deal with shipping him the grip frame. The upper corner radius is tight at the bottom with a noticeable gap towards the top. I didn't really feel like it was worth sending either set back. Just providing my experience with Chigs work.

Like I said, I don’t blame you. I wish I could post pics, I’d take some pics of mine.

Cheth, First, My apologies for the ill fitting grips. I have been making grips for going on 20 years now and looking at those grips, I cant believe that I let them go out like that. However, Had I been contacted, I would have been more than happy to make it right, and still will. Send me your frames and grips and I will take care of it. They look easy enough to fix.
Price point has nothing to do with fitment of grips. I have seen many sets of $300 or more sets of grips that fit worse than what you are showing on yours. Myself, I spend the same amount of time on a $100 set as I would a $300 set of grips. I am very sorry that these got past me, I have no excuse. Again, I would be more than happy to fix them for you if given the chance.
