Really if you sat down and tried to make a reasonably functional but completely F'd up gun I think you would be hard pressed to surpass this one. I mean who the heck puts a Vaquero style front sight onto a adjustable sighted framed gun? I seriously doubt it is tall enough to regulate, the holes in the barrel are smaller than any ports I have ever seen and it just gets more bizarre the more I look at it...

Looking at this gun makes me want to throw up. Nothing about it passes the eye test as being a Bowen gun. Besides that, I would have to spend nearly as much as they are asking for the gun to get even lukewarm towards it.

At least the quality of the rear sight matches the front.

It’s got my interest up just to inspect it,…..if it stays in Gatesville till I get back from my hunting trip, I’m gonna go handle it. I agree it just doesn’t match up, the “Magnaport ports” the front sight, and the build sheet.

Sorry and no offense to anyone who likes it, but it's horrible.
I know we all have different tastes, but clearly someone had no taste.

Why would a project by Hamilton come out without his rear target sight? Makes no sense.

but if a customer insisted, who knows? There's a thing known as "refusal of the opportunity to purchase" I'm guessing HB understands and practices that to a greater or lesser extent at his shop

i asked the seller if it was stamped BCA and if the grips were signed and this was his PM to me. [quot=Slick Head]I have no idea and I'm traveling this week and don't have the gun with me. I'm sure if we called Bowen customs they could verify the work by the serial number. But I'll look when I get back home [/quot]
[quot=LSCG]Hi,
I’m not trying to offend you but there are several red flags on that gun. for the sake of your future customer it would be a good idea to contact Bowen and make sure it came from his shop.
Zane.[/quot]
[quot=Slick Head]I already have. I did that before I bought it.
I got the gun from a retired Texas DPS officer
Thanks for the advice.[/quot]
first he says we can contact Bowen and find out, then he says he already did so before he bought the gun. mighty fishy.

Never bought a gun online and no customs here. I do have a question to ask.. Your thoughts as to the difference between a gun a respected 'Smith worked on and a "Custom" ? At what point is it a custom ?

At what point is it a custom ? Generally speaking custom work DOES NOT increase the value of a gun unless it is done by a known gunsmith of good reputation. Bubbasmithed guns often kill any value to a gun, often making it worth less than the gun it started from. Often times the owner get caught under the ether of the BS of the sale and ends up owning for way more than the guns real value is. This meth lab baby of a "Bowen" gun is a prime example, the current owner I suspect bought the story and is realizing he may have been duped or is the source of the Bubba gun and has way too many hours in it to just bail out now and is hoping recover something for his time. Buy the steak not the sizzle.

At what point is it a custom ? I would say a custom is a full build per instruction by a reputable smith. Customized if done by oneself or sparingly.

The indignation of the seller is a red flag that he knew what he was trying to pass off.

Seller seems to have removed post, a few others were questioning authenticity.

He clearly wasn't fooling anyone about it being a genuine Bowen gun...
