I only owe one Kimber product, a Stainless Target II in 10mm that my wife bought me for our 20 anniversary back in 2006. Other than the breech face on the slide being a little rough it has been a fine pistol and I have toted in many miles. Was curious if anyone on here has any first experience with the rifles, I think it is the model 82 and 84. Any knowledge would be appreciated. They are pretty rifles I just don’t know how they shoot. Reviews online and in print or mixed. Thanks David

In addition to the 22 K-Hornet mentioned in your previous thread, I have a Model 84 single shot bolt action chambered in 6x45. Laminated stock and a heavy stainless barrel. Half inch groups at 100 yards with some loads.

Can’t say from my shooting, but have have heard of some rifles with mediocre accuracy. Snyd in Alaska loves his Kimber .325 WSM; I can see why. Perhaps this a case of the Individual Rifle. I have a USRAC Winchester Model 70 Classic stainless .338 Win Mag which, after I pillar-bed full floated the action, shortened LOP (Length of Pull) and installed a Kick-Eez recoil pad, and mounted a Leupold Vari-X III 2.5-8x36mm with German #4 reticle, has proven an animal for accurate pouncing. performing like a wand on some difficult shots. I had a late-production USRAC M-70 Classic which did not make grade. David Bradshaw

I gave my dad an 84M classic select deluxe something. Very nice wood stocked Gun and very light. Shot really well with factory ammo. Never loaded for it but am about to. He has killed quite a few deer and pigs in last couple of years with it and loves it. I was pleasantly surprised at the rifle. I bought it maybe 5-6 years ago and it sat unfired for years. I’m not a big fan of their pistols of the guys that ran the “custom shop” so I was hesitant. But, in the end, it has been a great rifle.

I have a Kimber Montana in 7-08 and a Mountain Ascent in 280AI, both lightweights.
Both shoot well enough- the Montana 3/4 MOA with minimal load development and the Ascent 1/2 MOA. I think there's room for improvement in the Montana. I've only tried one powder under maybe 5 different bullets in Remington brass. Regardless, for a pencil barreled hunting rifle the accuracy is perfectly adequate.
Wing safeties aren't my favorite, but everything else about the Montana is perfect. The Mountain Ascent adds weight being a long action, and for that reason the Montana handles better. Low to mid 6 lbs with an illuminated VX6 in Talley rings.
As for reports of spotty accuracy, serious rifle guys will drop a 5 lb barrel on a rifle for hunting so they can get 1/4 MOA instead of 1.25 MOA. I'd take the lighter barrel all day long. I've also heard stories of Kimber rebarreling at the customer request.

Had a GORGEOUS old ebony tipped 300WSM. It made me flinch looking at it so it went. Other than my accurate little Kimber 22 I have nothing to offer.

I would like a Kimber Montana 308 Win with a fixed 4x scope and trim the barrel to 21”. I would take 7mm-08 as well. I could do all of my rifle hunting for the rest of my days with such a gun.

Agreed Anyone that asks me for a recommendation for a one gun battery I always recommend a bolt gun in .308

New here and just saw this thread.
We've had a Kimber 82 in .22 Hornet for quite a few years. Detachable box mag fed; 3 rounds. Ours shoots sub MOA with our handload which is rare for Hornets in our experience. Out of production for quite some time as these were Oregon Guns. Get an extra mag if you can as they are rare and stupid expensive. Very nice riles! Also have a .22LR Oregon guns and a NY gun I .17 Mach 2. The latter is the perfect gopher rifle.

This topic has come up in the past here. I've had experiences with a few Kimbers...an Oregon .222 that would shoot anything I put in it, and might be the most accurate rifle I've ever owned. But NY Kimbers have been an entirely different experience for me. I still own a .22 which shoots very well, but I've also owned a .260 Montana and a wood stocked .338, neither of which I could do anything with. 3-4" groups were the best I could ever come up with and what made it worse for me as a hunter, I never knew where the first shot was going to go. A buddy of mine and I spent months working with those and finally gave up. I very much wanted to like them but eventually traded them off. The family gun business was a Kimber dealer and we would get lots of reports back. Some results were phenomenal, much like David and Snyd have reported, others weren't. If you're looking at a Hornet though, it would be the Oregon made model 82 and should be very good.

I've only owned 2 Kimber rifles and both were CMP Model 82 Government target 22s. The one pictured was purchased at the north store new and without the normal razor cut in the stock. The other was well used purchased in Aniston but both were great shooters. ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220323/6074e6abe2940c16e42322e5f95f99a5.jpg)

I have a Kimber Classic Select in 30-06. 5 3/4 pounds, 24" barrel and holds 5 down. Accurate and a pleasure to carry and shoot. I was shocked at the lack of felt recoil from a lite rifle. Stick design is excellent. I've taken exactly 1 shot at game and dropped a deer in its tracks.
