Of course after saying that above here is my “three tone” gun, stainless cylinder, blued barrel and case colored frame including the grip frame ![](https://i.postimg.cc/2ScScSXm/E39B776D-FFC3-4F49-8999-7362AFD25A67.webp)

As to finishes, my preference is blued/case hardened. I don't want stainless steel simply because its sort of out if its time. I do like brass at times, prefer backstraps rather than the whole grip fram.e This is sort of my ideal: ![](https://hosting.photobucket.com/albums/i230/BobWright/New%20Rugers/100_8390_zps53pqqufz.jpg?width=960&height=720&fit=bounds) Or this: ![](https://hosting.photobucket.com/albums/i230/BobWright/Guns%20Miscl/.highres/100_9980-1.jpg?width=960&height=720&fit=bounds) Bob Wright

Funny thing is I never considered brass or case coloring two tone. In my mind I’ve had one “pinto “ which was a factory pre 24 from S&W. It had a nickel cylinder and barrel with the rest blued.

Do these count? I like the look of polished stainless with scandium. Happy Shooting! Boats ![](https://i.ibb.co/VVyDbMD/DSCN4461.jpg) ![](https://i.ibb.co/h9NcYRs/DSCN5439.jpg)

I like two tone DA pinto guns.
For a single action, I'd take a jeweled hammer long before a two tone gun. There's exceptions to every rule if anyone has a Colt SAA with stainless cylinder by Linebaugh. Reminds me I do have a 1905 Bisley by Stroh with an auxiliary stainless cylinder and new stainless barrel and the balance patina.

I like them, they're different and they give a certain look to a revolver that normally isn't there. I also like some of the "performance" ones that are colored a matte black or green. I seem to remember someone on here at one point and time had a green single action with a black cylinder and walnut grips in 500L. Though, it may not be the most "beautiful" looking gun, I sure as heck loved the looks of it. Squigz, that was my 500maximum I believe. It didn’t stay green and black long, maybe a year and a half. Then it got CCH’d and Blued,……which in affect would be a two tone revolver as well!!!! Earlier I said I wouldn’t set out to build a multi color, but that’s not true,…….all my 1911/2011 are two tone, hard chrome or stainless frames and blued or blackened slides. Trapr I have a bad memory but I knew I remembered something along those lines! That gun was beautiful (in it's own place) and turned out to be ELEGANT, for a lack of a better term. I've thought after seeing that gun initially of having one done in that color scheme, but something deep inside of me just tells me that I can't even do that to a gun, though, I would purchase already done up like that..

Diversity of color is good ![](https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51231945832_46a560b0a9_b.jpg) But, you fully understand what I say about 17-4s machine, heat treating and strength capabilities. It's not so much about the color to me. I can just live with a silver cylinder for the quality of product you end up with. It's what I see when I look at the gun.

I am having Jack Huntington convert a blued .357 magnum cylinder to .38-40 for my stainless S&W 610 and while I have thought about leaving it blued I think I am just going to have him hard chrome it. I just can’t do the pinto thing with it My knowledge is limited on the S&W's, what 357 cylinders would fit? Are cylinders the same between different frame sizes?

No, Ronnie bought a 357 Magnum N-Frame Cylinder. He's headed for a really nice gun...

Thanks Huey, I guess I better start brushing up on other platforms. As I do have a 610 on the way. I think the only double action I have is a little 38 airweight. Figured I needed one to go with my 401/10mm collection.

...not for me...
Only two-tone I can remember having is a S&W 627 .38 Super that was stainless with a matte blue cylinder...just didn't care for the looks.
