Picked this up about 20 years ago. A Savage 23B in 25-20 WCF.
Somebody put lots of work into this one. Stock checkered and the Schnabel Tip recut to a really classy style.
Sights removed and the dovetails filled before gun was reblued.
The whole gun is minty, including the bore.
The scope is from the 70s best I can tell from research. It's an Armsport 4x32mm. Fine crosshairs like the old Weavers. A very fine picture for an economy scope...

Hey that's a neat old Savage! The custom work reminds me of what Frank DeHaas used to do with guns of that era. Very nice!

Joe, I have no idea who did the work. I picked it up cheap at a Houston Texas Gun Show.
It's a shame it's pedigree isn't traceable. So many don't get the credit due.
The blanks put in the dovetails appear to be silver soldered. There's no lines left whatsoever.

That is handsome! Amazing how a touch of love can transform a gun.

The 25-20 WCF has been my favorite cartridge for three decades. It and the 32-20 can still be considered excellent Rook and Small Game Cartridges.
In fact, reloadable 255 Jeffery Rook cases can be made from 25-20 Cases. Very similar cartridges.

That’s a lot nicer than mine. Mine is a tack driver though. Winchester brass, Remington 6 1/2 primer, 12 grains of 4198 and an 86 grain Remington shoots amazingly well.

I purchased a bulk amount of the Missouri Coated Cast Bullets. I'm hoping to work up a decent 1500 fps load and just make this a cast bullet gun.
If not, I have plenty of 60, 75 and 85 grn FPs. The magazine is too short for spitzers.
Hope this one proves accurate...

I’d be surprised if it wasn’t. Those little Savage Sporters all seem to shoot well. A buddy has a couple and they shoot as well as mine. Good luck.

On another note regarding Savage 23s. I always thought it odd that they chambered it in 32-20 and 25-20 but switched to the 22 Hornet for a 22 caliber centerfire offering. I would have thought the 218 Bee would have been the natural choice.

I found out on the 24HCF the 23 preceded the 218 Bee. Savage already had a 22 Hornet in their line up in the model 19 so that would make it the logical choice in the 23 for a 22 centerfire.
