My EPS version is for a Redhawk.
Nice holster, would recommend if that style fits your needs.

The price is cheaper than a diamond d guides choice. Looking for a comfortable way to Cary the heavy 83. Easy to cover with a jacket but close enough to access. Does your FA97 flop about or is it more or less in the same spot when walking about? Thanks

That's what I use for 7.5" Blackhawks. Love it.

I know a lot of people love the old tanker style, but I've never used one that allowed a solid firing grip at first grasp. That big flap of leather just gets in the way.
The Kenai or Diamond D (and probably others I'm not familiar with) don't have that speedbump built in.
I really hate to have to mess around with getting a grip on the gun, I want it at first touch.

Agree. The down side to having the gun pulled close to your chest and having leather between your chest and the gun is there's no room to get your hand around the grip. Some guns are better than others for this arrangement. Some body shapes probably make it easier and others worse. Adding lining to the holster helps, so that the leather in that area isn't rough-out. In general, lined holsters or rough out/smooth in holsters are preferable.

The Diamond D Outdoors holster might fill your needs. That’s what I use for a Blackhawk and a FA 83. Either one fits well. The holster is a padded nylon holster, not leather, but I prefer it to leather.

Yep, got two of them. Good stuff. ![](https://photos.imageevent.com/newfrontier45/sixgunsv/large/IMG_1649_1_1.JPG) ***** The El Paso Saddlery Model 1842 is a bandolier slung shoulder holster designed for the M1911. Also called Tanker, M3, or M7. I may not have the semantics right, and my experience with it is limited to the various Colt, Kimber, and Les Baer 1911s. I do not use the around-torso support strap, and almost never attach belt loop at muzzle of holster. Mainly enjoy the airy BANDOLIER STYLE, no harness around my shoulders. 3 features of M7* A salient beauty of the M7: throw it over your shoulder and go. * No weight on waist. * Shove holster under (or behind) arm to get it out of the way while using chainsaw or other tools. * Military style post fastener is quiet & secure, with longer service life than most Dot-type snaps. Slow drawLess obtrusive than a sternum rig, the M7 is on the draw. The M7 gives up speed for unobtrusiveness & security. This is not a holster for still hunting deer. A jumped deer disappears in a bound; the pistol isn't drawn fast enough. The M7 is more about keeping the pistol out of your way for operating equipment and using tools. To stalk or track with this rig the gun belongs in your hand. Minimum leatherThe M7 secures the gun with a minimum of leather. It is quieter and more comfortable than any synthetic material, especially in cold weather. The chap. or leather chest guard, prevents indexing the grip on draw (as noted by 329). At the same time, the chap increases wear comfort, and protects one’s chest in a fall. Further, a high bandolier strap helps gravity hold the gun, especially as you when you bend over. Protection, on & offThe M7 protects the pistol on & off the person. One of my M7’s, by El Paso Saddlery, sports a liner of soft, firm leather; it shows excellent assembly. Occasional treatment with warm mineral oil & beeswax. Whether they like it of not, all my leather holsters, belts, pouches, shoes, boots, and gloves receive this treatment. They always like it. As to viability of the design for a 3 pound or 3 lbs+ revolver, Think I’d want a wider bandolier strap. David Bradshaw

I have one I bought for a 5.5 inch Blackhawk, I like it, You can carry, any big frame Blackhawk in in it, But as mentioned not the fastest to get a draw from, but the post fastener is just what Mr Bradshaw says secure and quiet. If you are thinking of as a bear protection rig, in Grizzly country might go for something else, And for around town, I think I would go another way too, But for deer hunting, i think it is a very good choice. ...tj

I have one for a 1911 & love it for ATV or horseback use. There's usually always some listed on eBay, you might get lucky & avoid the months long wait.

I have a Wyoming Combo holster by Von Ringler for a similar style holster that handles my FA 475 very well. I like how you can toss in in the passenger seat of the truck and jump out and toss it over your head and your in business. ringlercustomleather.com/shop/ols/products/wyoming-combination-holsterThe other cool part of the combo holster is if you don’t want to wear it over your shoulder you can snap it around your waist like a gun belt and it works perfectly fine. I honestly have never used mine as a gun belt before always just tossing it over the shoulder. Now it is a bit bulky and heavy but it works very well. A second option that I am liking even more is a Simply Rugged Sour Dough holster with a Chesty Puller harness. www.simplyrugged.com/ecommerce/Chesty-Puller-Suspension-System.cfm?item_id=160&parent=672Now the truth for me is I am right hip holster sort of a guy. This holster can have the chest holster harness on with 3 snaps. So you can be completely non committed to the design if you like or if weather and job requirements change.
