What use will it be put to ? For urban use, 2 legged varmints I'd say yes to it's over penetrating. For field use.. I have no problem with.

I think the term "over penetration" is BS because one has to reach the vitals under any and all conditions in car doors, hard barriers, etc. This is a do it all load in my opinion

For me, a flat point jacketed bullet is what I like in the few semi auto handguns I own.... reliable function and flat point for added smack. ![](https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/j384/jamesfromjersey/semi_autos.jpg?width=450&height=278&crop=fill)

John.... thanks for posting this data. My own experience with 9mm Luger of animals is not so cheery as the Alaskan guide’s. That aside, and I think you and I have discussed this, the 9mm Luger, a.k.a. 9x19mm. 9 Mike Mike, etc., is a PROJECTILE DEPENDENT cartridge. Illustration: in FMJ form----hardball----the 9 carries a fraction of the punch of .45 ACP hardball (with another downside----high ricochet potential).
Some 147 grain 9mm is very accurate. I took a SIG/Sauer P226 (4.4” bbl) to an IHMSA silhouette match. Hadn’t shot the pistol over 100 yards. Did o.k. on chickens and pigs. Got lost on turkeys at 150 meters (164 yards). The turkey is an unforgiving target; asymmetrical to sight on, like a football leaned on a kicking tee. You can fit three turkeys on the SIG .140” wide front sight. Pulled my act together on rams @ 200, clinking six, toppling 5x10. Oh, those rams fell slow. Nevertheless, the Winchester 147 JHP carried a bit of momentum to topple 5x10 rams. (The 9mm 147 JHP would have produced more ringers----targets which failed to topple.)
The 9mm shoots flatter than the .45 ACP, requiring 1/3 of the front sight needed for .45 ACP holdover.
Hornady discovered, perhaps in the late 1970’s, to put a meplat on 9mm FMJ greatly improves downrange accuracy. It is difficult to control uniformity when drawing the round nose jacket. There is some damn accurate FMJ in round nose, such as some .45 ACP National Match and Sierra 230 FMJ. It took longer for American 9mm to catch up to some German ammo.
I trust a sharp meplat to cut better than the traditional Truncated Cone meplat with radius. The sharp meplat may translate to more feeding problems, certainly in some pistols.
Appreciate your load work, David Bradshaw .
