I dont know about your hand size, but I have small hands and the grip fram of the bfr has such a long length of pull, it is hard for me to shoot one without hurting myself. So that is something to consider about the bfr. I bought a .500 Linebaugh Bisley that was built by Linebaugh. I understand the limited bullet selection, but there are plenty of designs for me. A 400 grain lfn or 460 grain keith type bullet will do anything I need to do with a handgun.

I agree with Craig’s first paragraph, the nostalgic part of me likes the .510 but the practical side says .500 has more going for it as far as components. So I have both .50’s and .51’s.

I had made contact with the seller on HHI and said I would take it but he said he was showing it to a local this morning. It was sold. Bummer. It was a heck of a deal

As for the cartridge, the .500JRH was an easy choice for me strictly due to bullet selection. The popularity of the .500S&W has really expanded the bullet selection in that diameter. The Linebaugh is the classic but commercial bullets are much less prevalent for those that do not cast. As for the sixgun, the BFR is a very well made sixgun and really a bargain for what is received. That said, there are things I don't like about them that are insurmountable. First and foremost is their grip frame. It is basically a reshaped Super Blackhawk grip with even more room behind the triggerguard and that is awkward for me. I've handled them and shot them and I don't like it. Plus it looks like a banana. Secondly, I'm over stainless steel. If the BFR was easily converted to a Ruger Bisley, I would have one just to have a .500Linebaugh. Getting picky, I don't like the ejector housing, the front sight or the general shape of the frame. To me it looks strictly like a product of engineering, with no artistic flair whatsoever. So my .500JRH is a blued custom Ruger Bisley, with ivory. This is a beauty !

This is my 500JRH in its natural environment. I do like the grip frame as the trigger guard does not hit my finger as much.
